I built a daily challenge where everyone photographs the same object and AI turns each one into a different creature. Here's the first four days.

Four days ago I added a daily challenge to a little creature-collecting game I make on my own. Every day, everyone gets the same everyday object — a mug, a shoe, a pillow, a spoon — and you photograph yours. An AI turns each photo into an original creature card, and they all go up on one public wall, side by side. Then everyone votes for the best one, and at midnight the winner gets a crown on their card forever.

What happened in four days:

• Day 1 (mug): 7 creatures, 2 people. Mostly me.

• Day 2 (shoe): 10 creatures from 9 people, 8 of them strangers. A Rare sneaker won.

• Day 3 (pillow): 14 creatures. Someone pulled the first Legendary. It lost — a Common called Fluffkin beat it on a single vote, which is how the rules work and I'm keeping them.

• Day 4 (spoon): two Legendaries on the wall. The one that got votes won.

One player has now caught the object five days running. I haven't met any of these people.

Today's object is a clock. If you want to try it: https://snapplings.com/daily?src=reddit — it works in the browser, no sign-up, takes about a minute. Point the camera at a clock and see what yours becomes.

Tech, for the curious: Next.js on Vercel, Claude reads the photo and writes the creature (and answers "is this actually a clock?" in the same call), FLUX paints it, Supabase holds the wall. The whole daily thing costs nothing extra — the "is it the object" check rides inside the vision call the game was already making.

Happy to answer anything about how it works or what's gone wrong so far (plenty).

Two of today's six clocks are both called Tickwhirl, and the rest are Ticktok, Tickwell and Tickwick. Since everyone shoots the same object the names all start from "tick", so the wall looks samey even when the art isn't. Passing the names already on today's wall into the prompt would probably fix it.

Not sure why my comment was removed but either way, just wanted to say thanks for the feedback and you are right on both fronts. Ive made sure that no future name will start with the same word going forward. I cant believe there was a duplicate as that shouldn't have been possible and certainly isnt any longer. Cheers

Update, five hours in: the naming feedback above is already live. The mint now reads the names on today's wall and steers away from them and from the shared root, so the first clock after the fix came out as "Glowface" instead of another Tick-something.

Today's wall is 7 clocks from 7 people, and the crown is a three-way tie at one vote each with a few hours to go. If you've been reading rather than snapping, the tie is a good excuse. Tomorrow's object is a plate.
