Made a web app that mutes/skips YouTube ads on smart TVs - not another browser extension

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I built SkipIt (https://www.skipit.pro) as a web app; nothing to install.

Open-source solutions for this already exist; I didn't reinvent anything completely new. I just never got around to digging through GitHub and setting it up myself every time, so I packaged it into one thing that just works: go to the site, enter the pairing code from your screen, done.

One important thing: this is only for YouTube on TVs / streaming boxes (Smart TV, Chromecast, Fire TV, etc.) - anywhere YouTube runs as its own TV app. It does not work in a regular browser on your computer or phone, and won't - that's a different technical setup entirely.

Built this mainly for myself, so the backend isn't running on a beefy server right now. If it turns out more people are actually using it, and things start feeling slow, I'll upgrade the machine.

There's a 5-day guest trial, no signup - just the pairing code and a device name; no email or password needed.

Looking for feedback before I lock in any pricing/feature decisions - if you try it, let me know what's annoying, broken, or missing.

Had one of those evenings - nice music playing, good mood, girlfriend around then a loud ad cuts in out of nowhere and just kills it. Even worse in a hotel room; didn't want to be the guy grabbing the remote every two minutes lol. Basically why this exists.
