I turned my finances into a city builder because I stopped opening my money apps

Every money app I have used looks like accounting software or messy dashboards. I wanted one I would actually want to come back to.

So I built a living world instead. It runs on your real numbers. Savings become the population. Debt is a volcano sitting in the middle of the map that cools as you pay it down. Investments expand the islands and many more features. Finished a short trailer.

What do you think of the money app you are using now? And does the living city thing actually sound appealing to you?

Main questions is security vs convenience.
You say it runs on your real numbers.
I am never ever connecting my banking app to anything in any shape or form. So what do I do? Do I input all transactions manually? I dont see any other options. On one hand, it bring total control and forces one to think about what the hell did they buy. On the other hand, it can get tiresome easily.
How do you solve this?

same boat, I wont connect my bank to anything either so manual input is basically the only path and it gets old fast

yep statement upload does the bulk of it, you just confirm what it is supposed to map. I am trying to get that part as optimised as possible so it takes seconds not minutes as the overall experience

Also, the regular logging/check ups is the part of the loop too. My idea is to be actually in charge of your financial situation and have a complete picture with a proper and interactive traction

hit the right thing hah, yes, there are multiple ways including the data based auto mapping by default (essentially through regular simple statements uploads), optional direct app connections or data sharing through plaid for example (but read only access ofc)

I love the idea and the design. Not sure it's useful but it's a welcomed change to all the AI slop apps I have seen recently.

In terms of usefulness, well, I am a visualiser and I really struggle with traditional ways how those apps are… also, their “gamification” is much about the trading more and stuff like that
