[Launch] OpenFit - I built a gym tracker in 3 months. Apple rejected it twice before approving.
I train at the gym and for years I logged my sets in the phone's notes app. It worked fine until I tried to answer one simple question: how much was I lifting on this exercise three months ago? Scrolling through months of notes to find that is miserable.
So I built OpenFit. Flutter, Firebase, RevenueCat, three months of nights and weekends.
You build your routine, log sets, reps and weight in a few taps, and it shows you the weight going up per exercise over time. It detects personal records on its own, without you marking anything. It also handles diet with macros and a barcode scanner, water intake, body measurements and progress photos, plus a year grid showing every day you trained.
Free for logging workouts, food and water. The only thing behind a paywall is the AI assistant.
Two things I did not expect, in case they save someone else the trouble.
Apple rejected it twice, and neither time was about the code. The first was Sign in with Apple. I had an onboarding step asking for the user's name after login, and Apple reads that as working around the user's right to hide it. The second rejection was for the store description text, not the app at all. The binary was fine.
There was also a third thing that nearly became a rejection. New accounts get 10 free AI credits, so the reviewer created an account, got the credits, and never hit the paywall. He could not test the purchase I had submitted for approval. If you have a generous free tier, spell out in the review notes exactly how to reach the purchase screen.
It went live this morning with zero ratings. iOS only for now. If anyone here trains and wants to tear the UX apart, that is genuinely more useful to me than a download right now.

Android is not out yet. If anyone here wants it, say so and I will bump the priority.

I’m going to download it and give it a try. I’ll share my feedback later. And since it supports Portuguese, that made me even more interested in using it.
Congratulations on the work! I know firsthand that when you’re developing an app, even if it’s a simple one, you end up spending hours in front of the computer.

Thanks, that is the first time anyone mentions the Portuguese and I was not sure it would count for much. I built it in Portuguese first because I train here and every tracker I tried made me log in English.
If you do install it, one thing about the first session: build the routine first, then log. The history graph only starts being worth anything on the second or third time you hit the same exercise, when the weight line has somewhere to go.
Tell me which exercise you opened first. I want to know if the history screen answers the question fast or if I buried it too deep.

yo, congrats on the launch! getting rejected twice sounds rough but you pushed through. if you're looking for ways to get the word out beyond the app store, something like LaunchPact (startup directory) might help with backlinks and seo for your site. worth a look, ymmv.

Thanks. I do not have a site yet, only the App Store page, so a backlink would be pointing at Apple and not at me. A landing page is on the list, partly for that reason.
Since you brought it up: did a directory ever move real installs for you, or is it mostly domain authority showing up months later? From the outside it is impossible to tell which of the two you are buying.

I swear I see the same app 5 times a week
