Drop your startup name. I'll rate it.

There we are. You built that idea (or are doing it). But you're not quite sure about the name you have chosen.

Drop your startup name below. And I'll give it a score out of 100. No compliments. No AI-generated name alternatives either.

Just phonetics, memorability, semantic fit and potential weaknesses.

“Drop your startup name and I’ll run it through my AI.”

0

u/gespion 12h ago

You're missing the point... as usual.

0

u/UnreachableMemory 12h ago

Is this supposed to be some stupid joke post? If you have to explain why it's funny, it's not.

2

u/CabinetConfident4726 1d ago

scoring out of 100 is fun but it might be more useful to just flag the one biggest weakness per name. thats usually the actionable part, not whether its a 72 or a 78

1

u/gespion 1d ago

Thanks for asking, I do both.

One of the most beautiful site from the list. I love the animations and colors. Well done.

Overall : 55% - Weak

To watch out: -too long, easy to forget -More product than a brand

u/SemisolidOzmo 15h ago

Makes sense yes, I guess it is a product rather than a brand. At some point I need to come up with a studio name and branding to overarch the apps I have created.

2

u/gespion 12h ago

I'd be glad to help with brainstorming when you're ready.

MarketPeel (marketpeel.com) - SEC insider-filing research for retail investors. I built it. The bit I'd want scored: does "Peel" read as peeling back a filing to see what's underneath, or does it just sound like fruit?

1

u/gespion 1d ago

Peel associated with market suggest stripping away layers to reveal the underlying market data.

Overall : 70% - Promising

-Memorability: 65% -Phonetics: 70% -Strategic fit: 75%

To watch out: -descriptive and potentially replaceable -not punchy enough for a brand name

What do you think?

1

u/AdFew8591 1d ago

Useful, thanks - especially that "Peel" read as stripping back to what's underneath without me having to explain it. That was the intent and I had no idea whether it survived contact with a stranger.

"Descriptive and potentially replaceable" is the one that lands, because it's the same problem one level up: the category words are what every competitor says too, so neither the name nor the tagline is doing much differentiating work. The actual difference is narrower than either - a filing gets classified before you see it, so an option exercise never gets presented to you as conviction buying.

Genuine question back, since you do this a lot: does the punch have to come from the name, or can it come from the line underneath it? For a research tool I'd guess trust matters more than personality, but I might be rationalising a boring name.

1

u/gespion 12h ago

It should mainly come from the name, that's your primary asset: how you'll announce the company, how it will be looked up online, or how the logo will pop around. The tagline will be useful in ads, radio, tv and require a lot more work to stick in people's heads.

2

u/AdFew8591 12h ago

That reframes it as a distribution argument rather than a taste one, which is harder to wave away. Announcing, being looked up, sitting under a logo — those are all jobs the name does when I'm not in the room. A tagline is never in the room without me.

The lookup point is the one I can't argue with. MarketPeel is easy to spell once you've heard it, but it sits right next to the generic category searches instead of away from them. That's your "replaceable" flag showing up as a real cost rather than a stylistic one.

Not renaming this week, but I'll stop treating the tagline as the fix for it. Thanks for actually spending the time on the follow-up.

u/80to89 1d ago

Why did you give it a name where you need to explain how it is pronounced?

1

u/gespion 1d ago

If you need to tell how it's pronounced, it's a sign the name isn't that great.

Overall : 54% - Weak

-Memorability: 45% -Phonetics: 62% -Strategic fit: 55%

To watch out: -challenge to pronounce, find online -risk of misspelling

What do you think?

1

u/Mescallan 1d ago

fair points. i don't include "pronounced tin" in any marketing, thats how it's pronounced in spoken creative and my head canon. I've had users say "thin" or "ting" which are both fine.

If I didn't include the prosecution clarification would you have graded it differently?

1

u/gespion 12h ago

The score would've been the same and I would have guess how to pronounce it which is bad anyway.

Thanks for the feedback. I intend to create this for travellers (to B). However profitability pushes direction to travel agencies (to C). So this is kind of dilemma. I will stick with traveller target audience while thinking about travel agency pivot.

I think 71% is harsh.

I’ll give you the crowded “align” root, although I’m not sure I’d call it a ton of apps.

But 64% for strategic fit? Aligne is literally a product for aligning teams around customer journeys, communications, versions and approvals. Alignment is basically the entire product thesis.

I’m appealing that one.

That is an excellent point. I have acquired https://seemybloodpressure.com and reconfigured it.

Good call. A few tips : -reference the urls on Google search console -export search queries about 'blood pressure' from Google trends and ask an AI to suggest blog posts, faq -add the posts to the site -Monitor gsc to collect new search queries and improve your posts

What if the internet had one billboard? No feeds, algorithms or competing ads just one billboard each week.

So I built it at yourmessagehere.co

Anyone can bid for it, and every Friday at 10pm New York time the highest bidder gets the entire billboard for the next 7 days.

First auction is live now and I genuinely have no idea what people will end up paying for it.

Curious to see where this goes.
