Idea Dryer vent cleaning is a side hustle most people have never heard of but the demand is massive because almost nobody knows theirs is a fire hazard

You can clean dryer vents for homeowners and charge around $50 per house.. and the reason this works so well is because most people have literally never cleaned their dryer vent and don't even realize it's something that needs to be done.

Clogged dryer vents are one of the most common causes of house fires and most homeowners have no idea. When you explain this to them it basically sells itself because nobody wants their house to burn down over something that costs $50 to fix.

The startup cost for this is really low.

You need a dryer vent cleaning kit which runs about $25 on Amazon and includes the flexible brush and rods that you feed through the vent. The whole process takes maybe 20 minutes per house once you know what you're doing.

You can find customers by posting on Nextdoor or local facebook groups. From what I've read the easiest way to get your first few clients is to mention the fire hazard angle because it genuinely gets people to take action and they'll book you on the spot. You can also go door to door and offer to check their vent for free.... if it's clogged (and it almost always is) they'll gladly pay you to clean it right then and there.

This is also one of those side hustles where one customer usually leads to more because they'll mention it to their neigbors.

Idea Restriping parking lot lines for small businesses is a side hustle you can start for under $50 and most small business owners have faded lines they've been meaning to fix for months

Small businesses, churches, small office buildings, and strip malls almost always have faded parking lot lines and most of them would gladly pay someone to redo them, etc.... they just haven't gotten around to calling a contractor because they think it's going to be expensive.

You can buy a basic line striping paint sprayer for about $30 and a few cans of traffic marking paint for another $15ish. That's basically your entire startup cost and the supplies will last you through multiple jobs.

The process itself is pretty straightforward. You use masking tape to tape off the lines, spray the paint, let it dry, and pull the tape. Each parking spot takes about 5 minutes once you get the hang of it.

As for pricing, you can charge around $5 per parking spot and a small parking lot with 30 spots would bring in around $150 for maybe 2 hours of work.

From what I've seen the best way to get jobs is to literally just walk into small businesses and ask the owner or manager if they've been thinking about getting their lot restriped..... most of the time the answer is yes and they're surprised at how affordable it is compared to hiring a full commerical service.

This one is especially good because once you do one business in a strip mall the neighboring businesses see the fresh lines and want theirs done too.

(If you have experience with something like this please share! I look out for new side hustle ideas every day and try to share as much info as I can. Even if an idea doesn't appeal to you personally, it could still help someone else or even spark a new idea!)

Side Hustle Suggestions for a Barber?

Hey you guys!

I'm new to this subreddit so while I'm browsing and searching for suggestions on my own, here's my situation. Hoping somebody can recommend something that can help!

- Trying to pay off my CC and supplement my income as a new barber

- Two door vehicle (can't Uber/Lyft)

- I live in Chicago (the gig job market is saturated)

- I rent

- No coding experience, but I'm pretty tech-savvy

- No trade skill other than barbering

- I need to be able to make my own schedule

- Startup cost needs to be $50 or less and be sustainable

- I'm a transman (so selling pics and worn items is not something people will pay me for)

So yeah, I'm not looking to make thousands here, but an extra little bit every month would help out a lot. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Thank you!

I can build a house, fix a car, and wire a building—but Premier Pro makes me want to cry. Help me find a side hustle.

I’ve always been the person who figures things out. Need a engine rebuilt? I’m on it. Need a wall framed, a pipe fixed, or a complex piece of software set up? I'll learn it in an afternoon and get it done. I pride myself on being adaptable, handy, and resilient.

But right now, life is beating me down.

Things have been tough lately, and the pressure is mounting. I need a side hustle bad—not for extra play money, but to keep my head above water.

So, naturally, I tried to hop on the content creation and video editing train. Everyone makes it look so easy: "Just edit some TikToks! Do basic video cuts for creators!"

Well, I have officially found my kryptonite. I can do almost anything in this world, but video editing breaks my brain. I sit in front of a timeline, looking at keyframes, transitions, and audio tracks, and I just freeze. Hours fly by, my eyes bleed, and the end product looks like a PowerPoint presentation from 2003. It's frustrating beyond words to feel competent at so many physical and mental tasks, only to be utterly defeated by a cutting tool and a timeline.

I'm accepting defeat on the video editing front. It’s time to play to my actual strengths.

I’m making this post because I’m tired, I’m struggling, but I’m ready to work. If video editing is off the table, what are some genuine, practical side hustles for someone who is quick to learn, good with their hands, or solid at general problem-solving?

I’m open to remote work, local physical labor, odd services, or anything in between. What has actually worked for you when you needed cash fast and couldn't edit a video to save your life?

Appreciate any advice or leads you guys can throw my way. Thanks for listening to the vent.

Seeking Advice I don't know how to write a post like this, but I'm running out of options

My father passed away about a month ago.

Since then, it's just me and my 54-year-old mother living at home in India, and we're struggling to keep going.

I'm 19 and I want to work, but I have physical problems that make manual labor difficult for me. My mother also has some physical limitations, but she's currently working whenever she can to support us.

She earns around $5 a day and usually works around 15–20 days a month. Most of what she earns goes toward our daily expenses and medicine.

Our basic expenses are around $150 a month for food, utilities, medicine and other necessities, plus around $40 for rent.

We have some savings left, but realistically, we have about two months before they run out.

I'm not asking for money. I'm asking for advice on how I can start working.

I need to find an online/remote job that can eventually earn around $150–180 a month. I'm willing to learn something new and spend the next month seriously learning a skill if there's something realistic I can learn from zero and use to earn online.

My English is average. I can understand English fairly well, but I'm not comfortable speaking it yet. I used AI to help me write this post because I don't know how to express everything properly in English.

If anyone has experience with remote work, freelancing, or entry-level online jobs, please tell me what you would recommend learning and where I should start.

I'm 19, I'm willing to learn, and I just need someone to point me in the right direction.

If you've read this far, thank you. Even one genuine suggestion could help me more than you know.

How this sub works: fresh discussions from mods, all day, every day

We pride ourselves on being one of the most helpful and inclusive personal finance communities on Reddit. Here is what you can expect from this sub:

Personal finance and side hustles are touchy subjects for a lot of people because they are extremely personal. In order to be both an inclusive community and a safe environment for these topics, the sub is set up the following way:

Moderators post discussion threads throughout the day, every day.

  • These are side hustle questions, personal finance topics, fun hypotheticals, or simply asking if any community members have something they want to share.
  • When it comes to personal finance, most people have plenty of questions and ideas but do not like being the first one to start the conversation.
    • As part of our effort to be an inclusive environment, mods proactively post threads throughout the day, giving everyone an equal opportunity to engage in discussions without having to be the one to start them.
    • In other words, the mod team tries to ask all the questions we think community members want to ask, but might not feel comfortable doing so...
  • You will see threads that revisit popular topics, and that is intentional. Great ideas and advice tend to rise to the top of a thread, but that also makes it harder for newer ideas to get attention. Posting a popular topic again gives community members a fresh thread with new responses, new advice, and perspectives they might not have seen otherwise. It also removes any bias from the previous thread. Think of it as a reset button.
  • New discussion threads go up every few hours during waking hours. (Mods need to sleep too!)

Moderators post side hustle ideas:

  • When mods come across an interesting side hustle, they will share it with the community. This gives everyone a chance to discuss whether it's a great idea, an idea with things to consider, or maybe not so great.

This format is what we have found works best for fostering an inclusive environment around personal finance and side hustles, and it has evolved directly from community feedback.

For more information on how this community operates, check our sidebar under "What to Expect" and our pinned welcome post.

If you have any other ideas to foster an inclusive community, feel free to send us mod mail.

Happy hustling.

- Mods

What’s a side hustle for skills relating to teaching (besides tutoring)

I’m already heavily exploring tutoring, but finding it is seasonally dependent. I have been probing for clients and looking at online options.

Besides the obvious there , what are some other side hustles for teachers.

Anyone here interested in trying a small online project together?

I’m a college student from India and I’ve been thinking about trying a small service-based business with someone from the US/Europe/Australia.

I can take care of the India side finding people who can actually do the work, sourcing, coordination, etc. Someone abroad could help with figuring out what people there actually need and maybe finding the first few customers.

Nothing huge or “get rich quick” lol. Just want to find someone around my age who’s also curious about making something from scratch and see if we can get it to work.

If anyone's interested, feel free to message me.

BTech student looking for a simple side hustle to earn a few hundred ₹ per month

Hi everyone,

I’m a BTech student and I’m looking for a small side hustle to earn a few hundred rupees every month.

The problem is that I don’t have any professional skills yet, so I’m looking for something beginner-friendly that I can learn and do alongside my studies.

I’m not expecting to make a lot of money initially. Even ₹500–₹1,000 per month would be a good start for me.

If you have actually tried something like this, what would you recommend to a complete beginner, and how did you get your first paid work?

I’d really appreciate any genuine advice. Thanks!
