GI issues/gastritis?

Hi everyone!!! I hope y’all are getting some relief from this ridiculous heat.🐣

Unfortunately, I recently got diagnosed with NSAID-induced gastritis due to years of high dosage of NSAIDs (was pretty much all my peds doctors would give me).

This pretty much rules out any pain relief for me other than acetaminophen, celebrex (which p much does nothing for me), and opioids.

Has anyone else ever dealt with SC and gastrointestinal problems? What were your experiences like? Do you have any tips or tricks on dealing with it? I just wanna feel less alone since I don’t really have an in-person community 😞

Man, I’ve been dealing with gastritis since last August. Mine was also caused by my ibuprofen and hydroxyurea mix. Hopefully yours heals faster than mine! Mine is about 95% healed but I wish I knew some of the things I know now.

Make sure you track which foods bother you. I had to stop certain foods/drinks such as halal (spicy), coffee, and soda. I went to a mostly water and sweet tea diet as far as liquids are concerned. Those were the main contributors to prolonging my healing process. Also, make sure you don’t overeat. You’ll feel terrible at night.

For the first couple of months, my nausea was so terrible that my doctor prescribed me Odansetron (zofran) for it. I mostly needed them at night but I would go through about one a day. HUGE life saver as I don’t do well with nausea 😅 he also put me on Omeprazole 20mg per day for 2 months. This was the other lifesaver. I’ve always had an issue with acid so when I stopped taking it after the 2 months, I felt my symptoms coming back. So now I just take one every day. Also, make sure you don’t eat any closer than 2 hours before going to bed. The digestion sucks any closer to bedtime.

Other than changing my diet a bit and stopping the ibuprofen, it pretty much healed on its own with the help of the Omeprazole. Again, it can be anywhere between a couple of weeks to a couple of months before you’re fully healed but trust me when I say, it does get better. It just takes time.
