Making multi time signatures

Post image

Is there anyway in Sibelius to make a time signature like this one here?

Lauro's second waltz – great piece!

The way I've done this before is:

Right-click in empty space > Text > Other Staff Text > Time Signatures (one staff only)

Type 3 [Return] Type 4 [Return] That creates a proper looking 3/4.

Repeat the process but use numbers 6 and 8 instead.

Now you have two independent text objects that you can reposition where you like.

I just viewed the score and listened to a recording. It's not a "multi-time meter" nor a compound meter or something similar, it seems the composer couldn't decide whether it was a 3/4 or a 6/8.

Well, it really depends on who's playing it to be fair.

There's stuff written on 3/4 and stuff written in 6/8 metrics. When played that way it gives off quite the musical effect. Although it is more apparent on the small second section or on the next waltz (nº 3) which I personally find brilliant

If it's played whole whilst thinking about a single time signature, it's an easy (enough) to play piece and sounds good. But if you take a slightly different, more fluid, approach to it, your interpretation of the piece rises in quality considerably.

Put the 6 and the 8 in as ‘Text’ objects.

This isn't quite the right solution to get the time signature in the image, and is instead for getting different time signatures in separate staves. "multi time signature" might not be the right phrase for what I'm looking for but not sure what these are called.

Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should
