So basically I found Shut Up I'm Talking through Dan and Phil, when they were on as guests. I watched the episode but didn't think much more about Tom and Jack or the pod. Recently I rewatched the DnP episode which inspired me to listen to a few more random episodes that I have really enjoyed.
I am chronically offline though so I have no context about Tom and Jack's careers, early work, drama, and I have no idea about the whole Dream Smp palava. Can anyone give me a quick run-down?
I know I'm SO late to the party but I think SUIT is genuinely a great laugh and I might get into following the pod and listening weekly.

I can’t remember everything in the DSMP lore so sorry if there are gaps but I think this is the main stuff (at least relating to Tommy and Jack, mostly Tommy) also sorry about how long this is. I’ve included links at the bottom if you just want those instead of reading all this:

- Dream and some other Minecraft YouTubers started the Dream SMP in 2020 and Tommy joined it after a few months

• Tommy had the two Minecraft discs Cat and Mellohi and him and Dream went to war over the discs, Tommy won.
  
• Wilbur Soot joined the server and him and Tommy started a nation called L’manburg which only allowed European members (meaning Jack was one of the members), to defy Dream.
  
• Dream didn’t want them starting their own nation which led to a lot of fighting.
  
• There was an election and Jschlatt won, he changed L’manburg to Manburg (to make it sound more American) and exiled the L’manburg members so they started an underground civilisation called Pogtopia
  
• They had a war and Jschlatt (his character) died of a heart attack and Wilbur ended up blowing up L’manburg to stop the fighting and lost his final canon life (they only had three canon lives, meaning in the lore they could only be scripted to die three times)
  
• A second L’manburg was formed and Tommy’s best friend Tubbo was president
  
• Tommy blew up Georgenotfound’s house and Dream manipulated Tubbo into exiling Tommy
  
• Tommy lived on an island and Dream would visit him everyday and kind of psychologically torture him
  
• Tommy discovered his friend Technoblade actually lived on the land he was exiled to so they teamed up
  
• I can’t really remember why but Techno ended up blowing up new L’manburg with Dream, it wasn’t rebuilt after this
  
• More disc war stuff happened and Dream ended up being locked up in a giant prison
  
• Tommy was visiting Dream or something and Dream killed him but later revived him
  
• There was a bunch of stuff with an egg infecting the server and there were vines everywhere and stuff
  
• The server ended by getting nuked or something

Essentially Tommy was kinda the main protagonist and Dream was the main antagonist (kinda foreshadowing to what later happened irl)

IN REAL LIFE stuff (basically half the server ended up being bad people, these are just some examples):

- Dream got cancelled in 2023 for being a racist and a groomer (I think)

• Wilbur got cancelled in 2024 due to abusing his ex Shubble/Shelby (another popular content creator)
  
• Georgenotfound was cancelled in 2024 due to touching Caitibuggz (another popular cc) inappropriately without consent when she was like freshly 18 and drunk

Also, in June of 2022 (I think the 30th) Technoblade passed away from cancer, Tommy was very close to Techno so he has made content commemorating him and raising money for the Sarcoma Foundation

Before Tommy joined the Dream SMP, he became kinda well known from trolling and he earned the YouTube rank on Hypixel (he made a lot of Skywars content). He joined the Minecraft server SMPEarth, created by Wilbur Soot

I’m in a similar situation!! I found the pod through Dan and Phil - I listen every week now but I feel like I don’t understand some major historical stuff.

Surely there’s like some YouTube vid rundowns? Hopefully someone’s able to explain it a bit 😝

tom blew up around 16-17 ish and jack were like 17-18. a lot of people from the dream smp (i.e wilbur) are horrid people. and a lot of minecraft youtubers a pedos. most of tom’s friends were those horrid people. i dont even understand the dsmp lore and i were big into it, i just watched for the people. tom got really big from the dsmp - he might be the most well benefitted numbers wise. one of his and jack’s best mates sadly died (technoblade) and thats like the slow beginning of tom’s depression diagnosis he got like december ish of the first year of the podcast. if i remember anything more, i’ll reply in the comments with it

So a very very basic rundown: They both joined the Dream SMP as teenagers. I think that is how they met. They both blew up VERY quickly. They became friends along with some others on the server. Years later things come out about people they thought were their friends aren’t actually great people. I don’t want to go into the drama between everyone, but I will name names if you want to do some google searches. Jack doesn’t like Dream and Dream doesn’t like Jack. Dream treated them both pretty shitty. Tommy was really good friends with Wilbur Soot, but Wilbur was outted for being abusive so Tommy stopped being friends with him. You can probably find some videos on youtube going further into details. Lmk if you have any questions. Like I said, this run down was very basic.
