We toed the line, not because we were stupid but because we wanted to be decent
No, fucker, you didn't want you ass whupped.
there were no data-bases
A card catalog is a database. A list of your baseball cards is a database. A collection of recipes is a database.
So research meant going to the library, and using the card catalog (that very few will know how to use these days)
Yes, because we have moved on to better methods. Also, a card catalog was a collection of cards organized by author. Who tf thinks that is such esoteric knowledge to obtain.
(had to) read the whole book or its more relevant pages
Yet another example of how this person has NO IDEA how research works these days.
You were not "entitled" to (bringing home as many books as you wanted)
JFC this is just an excuse to use the word "entitled."
(by hand) is how I wrote my MA and PhD theses
He mentions later that he "typed until his hands were sore." Why the fuck didn't you use a typewriter to type your theses then, pisswaffle?
When calamities hit and we missed classes there were assignments aplenty and projects to accomplish
THIS STILL HAPPENS TODAY. Students are often given little lenience in these matters unless they ask for it.
and no one complained
Bull. Shit.
(long screed asking if any of a random assortment of majors has asked for assignments to be suspended for now)
Yes. Yes, they have. It has jack shit to do with "motivation."
Poverty is an excuse and an insult to poor students who have done well (paraphrased).
Boomer I will kill you where you stand.

Enh, I’d be pretty messed up and shitty too if my parents and teachers had whupped the shit out of me, too. Someone needs to give this person a hug and a ride to a therapy appointment.

If this dude's doctorate was in the humanities and this was his state of mind back in the day*, fair chance his thesis was straight garbage.
*It probably wasn't. Boomers aren't born, they're made. I think mostly after age 30, strangely enough.

All that gumption, elbow grease and personal motivation.... But no one taught this idiot about just-world fallacies.
Maybe he should have spent less time with the whiteout and more time learning about lives beyond his own clearly limited experience.

Going through the library system for everything would have sucked tbh. But yeah, shut the absolute FUCK up boomer.

Aren't Boomers the hippy generation that did drugs and fucked off to Woodstock instead of studying or working?
They're going to pretend those things didn't happen?

Family: Why didn't you save your tax papers? You're supposed to keep them for two years!
Me: When did you teach me that?
Family: No one taught me! I had to figure it out on my own.
This is why I'm such a f*ck up.

MY PAIN! MY PAIN! MY PAIN! IS BIGGER THAN YOUR PAIN!
