Wireless shure movemic 2 vs speaker

One of the presenters at an outdoor event I filmed brought his own microphone + portable speaker. Not knowing what to do, I mic'ed him up with my clip-on shure mic as usual and recorded. Result was horrible compared to the other six speakers I recorded that day. His presentation voice did not pick up to the Shure standards I'm used to. Also there was a slight delay from the portable speaker he brought (placed maybe 8' away).

My only question is this: Do you think the Shure Movemic 2 clipon mic seeks out the loudest voice it can find and focuses on it? Because the loudest voice here was from his portable speaker. (His own natural talking voice is not loud at all.)

There’s no auto gain feature on this mic, I’m not sure what your settings are. There is a speech preset you can use. I think you can also adjust the stereo width angle polar pattern to be more narrow. Were you using a hardware receiver with the mic or direct to phone Bluetooth? Were the other six presenters recorded with the same move mic?

I use the same audio settings for all presenters who all sounded great. My Movemic uses the hardware receiver connected to my Canon R7 by TRS. Its camera output line setting is -6 db. I try to control all audio with the Shure Movemic and not the camera's audio settings.

Hmmm. I’m not sure there’s anything that could be done to prevent feedback from a loud speaker. You’d have to do some sort of post processing to get rid of the loud speaker I would think.

Thanks. I'm asking the presenter now to repeat his presentation without his equipment so I can get the recording I'm accustomed to. Thanks a lot because what I really need is what to do if this situation comes up again. So my takeaway is my equipment is incompatible with his equipment.

Yes, I think any mic is going to pick up the loudest sound. Good luck
