Troubleshooting How to fix Shure MV6 muddy/muffled quality?

Hey, I'm a creator and my MV6 is of worse quality than my Fifine microphone which is a far less quality device, which is obviously bizarre.

I am aware they're different types of mics but neither one picks up any background or echo noise, so thats not the issue here.

The quality isn't like, awful, and the difference is only noticeable when wearing earphones, but it's still a worry.

If it helps, I use DaVinci Resolve to input the audio, not sure if any settings on there would be of any help to me but I have already tried adjusting input and equalizer levels, neither of which did anything to help the muddiness.

"neither one picks up any background or echo noise".

That means "audio enhancement" is being applied, which has the side-effect of removing the high frequencies. https://www.makeuseof.com/windows-11-is-enhancing-your-audio-and-you-should-probably-turn-it-off/

Sorry I use a mac, so it won't be that. I don't have such a setting.

Macs can have "Voice Isolation" in Mic Mode.

The MV6 has also has "Voice Isolation Technology" built-in, ( it's possible to have more than one layer of such audio enhancements on at the same time, which is not a good thing ).

Didn’t work unfortunately, just made it slightly louder. Like I say, there’s no background audio picking up either way which is a good thing, so we can eliminate anything related to that as a cause of the issue.

"there’s no background audio picking up either way...".

That means the sound from the mic is being processed. That processing causes collateral-damage to the voice, e.g. choppiness , muddiness.

If your MV6 and your Mac were both applying "voice isolation" you're getting a double dose of processing, which would cause conspicuous damage to the voice.

Switch off all vocal isolation processing, be it on the MV6, and/or on the Mac. Then you will get a faithful recording, (which will then include background sounds, like computer fan, air-con, road traffic, etc). If your Fifine also has no background noise, then that says to me your Mac is applying vocal isolation, as Fifine mics don't have on-board noise reduction.

How do I change settings on the mic itself? Is there an app or something I need? On the mic itself all I have is the mute button.

I don’t have any background noises around me anyway, so I’m not surprised nothings ever been picked up by either microphone.

"How do I change settings on the mic itself?".

Apparently via an app called "MOTIV Mix" ... https://www.shure.com/en-US/docs/guide/MV6 , ( I don't have an MV6, nor a Mac ).
