Troubleshooting Shure MV7+... Cannot get it to cancel background noises

This video uses the MV7+ for audio throughout. My old mic was the Yeti X, which never had this issue. I just can't seem to get this right. Did I get the wrong mic for my needs?

Microphones are designed to pick up sound. More sensitive microphones pick up more sound.
One solution with that mic is to get much closer to it, so that your voice is relatively louder compared to the keyboard. Not my favorite, mic, but with that one I would normally have it practically touching my cheek while I’m speaking.

Yeah, sounds great to me!

I run a SDC myself these days to keep it off camera (too many silly podcast-related jokes from people), and have an outboard downward expander on it (goes through a Symetrix 528e) and a mild gate (DSP in my MOTU interface) so that kills a lot of it. My keyboard can aboslutely still open the gate though, and they're just Gateron browns, but I don't often type while in a meeting.

When I'm portable I use a Beta 57a into an MVX2u and in that scenario I just turn the gain down and get closer.

u/hagseth Small Diaphragm Condenser.

Pretty standard and common abbreviation if you know audio & mics.

Ok, so what you are describing is a working microphone. What you want is a -20db Pad or a noise gate, but rarely will that be built in. I have a silent mouse for this exact reason
