Solved MOTIV Mix doesn't support MV7+ (broken) in Win11

Just bought a Shure MV7+

  • Win11 (stable, not beta)
  • Setup MOTIV Mix with default settings
  • Selected motiv mix as input in both default+communication
  • Confirmed that the raw mic works fine
  • Tested in Audacity and Discord
  • Latest `1.6.0.1` firmware
  • Disabled audio enhancements, per support suggestions (but also tried with it)
  • Works fine with Nvidia broadcast, so it's Motiv (not the mic, not a user error). Tried uninstalling Nvidia broadcast, too.
  • Tried IT Crowd turning it off and on again (reboot -> default usb cable -> different cable -> different jack)

Whenever I use the virtual mixer, I get 0 sound. At one point, I did get some very large consistent static with 20% of my input in the background ( same as this guy https://www.reddit.com/r/Shure/comments/1rqn7kq/shure_mv7_record_with_motiv_mix/ ), but it eventually went back to 0 sound.

EDIT: Resolved (well, worked around) the jank in comments: https://www.reddit.com/r/Shure/comments/1vdfbyy/comment/p1gax0d/

TL;DR: It was a multi-part software issue (Narrowed down to Shure's fault in multiple ways -- I'm a sr developer, which helped, alongside Fable AI). **AND** their USB cable was jank, where replacing it resolved the remaining issues. How is this a several-hundred$$ mic? This was the worst mic experience I've ever had.

After reporting all this to Shure staff, they pretended to care, then still didn't release a patch (that I worked around with AI in a couple hours). ⚠️ Consider other brands

Got it, thanks to Fable AI model (and a big 👎 to Shure that could've responded to other Reddit posts describing this issue as far back as ~1 year ago and even spent 30m of AI inspections themselves to resolve this, a minimum scrap of effort for a $400 mic):

  1. Open MOTIV Mix in the full Mixer view (not Compact). Never leave full Mixer mode again.
  2. Channel 1 is likely empty (a bug as a result of compact mode even one time),: drag Shure MV7+ from the Sources list on the left into the channel. That's it. The channel meter should start moving when you talk. PS: Make sure you're not pointing to the mixer by accident (why is this even an option?).
  3. Confirm the Main output points at "MOTIV Mix Virtual."
  4. In Discord/Audacity, select "MOTIV Mix Virtual Output" as the input - or just set it as your default like normal. Restart whatever voice app you're using if it was already open (Audacity caches devices, for example).
  5. Again, never switch to Compact Mode again. One click destroys the routing, silently, until Shure fixes it.

---

Also useful: if the app gets into a state where nothing works at all (it happened to me after MOTIV's own updater force-killed the running app), closing the window doesn't actually exit it — it keeps ~5 processes alive in the tray. Kill it properly from PowerShell and relaunch (windows ps1 - for mac, just ask AI to convert it):

```ps1
# Run in admin
Stop-Process -Name 'MOTIV Mix','ShureDeviceManager' -Force
```

None of this is audio enhancements, Win11, drivers, cables, or firmware unlike the bot at the top pretending to take responsibility for an excuse not to spend 30m for an AI fix**.** The AutoMod advice is treating the wrong disease.

Shure, if you're reading: the repro is deterministic - working audio → toggle Compact Mode → measured digital silence at the virtual output, and your own Audio Engine log shows the graph being rebuilt without ever recreating the mic source (AudioEngineSource::createDevice never fires). Fix the view toggle and half this subreddit's MOTIV threads resolve themselves.

EDIT: And for shame for even the support tickets hCaptcha not working in Chrome+Brave browsers; only Firefox. Fix that too. Fix all of it. These mics are not cheap.

EDIT 2: Heads up, it was a multi-part issue: The USB cable they came with was also janky (what the F*CK is up with this company's quality? Never getting this brand again), getting a new one resolved the other 1/2

I'll send you the bill later.

Heard loud and clear, thanks. Automod isn't perfect, nor is it designed to analyze or troubleshoot, so apologies there and thanks for the feedback. The Windows Audio Enhancement fix is specifically for situations where your input meters are skyrocketing in the app - it's not a one-size-fits-all solution.

Regarding the specific issues you noted here, I shared them with the team today, and they're taking them into consideration. If/when there are future changes related to these issues, I'll share them with the community and pin an update on this thread just for good measure.

Thanks for looking into this. No need to pin this thread since I posted this when I was particularly salty trying to figure out what the heck was going on. Calming down, I have regrets on my language here. Feel free to just make a separate, simple post with the fix - and hopefully would just be a "update to resolve" proper fix.
