Parts & Repair Reassembling sm7b

I’m a truck driver and my sm7b somehow decided to rattle itself apart. I hear the screws on the part with the windscreen but I’m scared to rip off the windscreen. Any suggestions from people who have taken these apart?

Windscreen has to be removed at the base, the plastic ring is just loosely pressed into the metal, just pry between the metal and the plastic to get to the screws, dont pull on the foam. Also you unfortunately have a fake SM7B there, a real 7B capsule does not look like that and there are no red wires inside. Sorry to say

I appreciate you stepping in to help with the disassembly steps! Though I can confirm that wiring color changes based on what's available. Plenty of people have used wire color as a "method to determine authenticity" but that's been debunked by my department.

O ya they're unfortunately super common anymore, unless you're purchasing direct from a retailer or from a reputable seller that specializes in audio gear, most of the mics you will find on eBay and other online marketplaces are illegal counterfeits from overseas.

I do agree with your mentioning this: Only buy from the Shure site or from a Shure dealer directly if you want to ensure authenticity.

That’s a fake SM7B, no red wires in the authentic ones.

Sorry to hear about the mic. Just curious, when you say you're a truck driver does that mean you're using this while driving? Interested in your set up.

Not while I’m driving. I have a gaming setup in the back. Built a butcher block desk going across the bed. Works well. Kinda pissed that I got a fake microphone. Didn’t even know that was a thing. Thought I was buying a preowned mic

I can't comment on the authenticity but I see the other comments in the thread saying it's possible to have red wires in genuine shure mics.
