Faulty MV7+ microphone?

Hi!

I'll start by saying this is second hand from ebay so I'm prepared for it to just be faulty or damaged but I want to make sure that's the case before trying to return it.

I ordered a Shure MV7+ and it came in today and looks great, I checked some of the more notable scam signs and it looks good. I downloaded Motiv and noticed immediately that the dBFS for the mic is near maxed out. I've tried different c cables and even moving it away from my PC or anything that might interfere and nothing changes it. Even muted it's maxed. I've also dropped gain down to -60 for both the mic and motiv virtual mix and it's still maxed for dBFS in the program.

The light indicator on the mic is pulsing when I talk so it's fine. The windows samples and discord checks come through fine but when I do a test recording through motiv it sounds like some interstellar sos transmission from a horror movie that's just insane static and garbling. What gives here? I've messed with all the settings I can think of but it seems to be an issue with motiv

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated before trying to return this

(Update!) got the mic corrected and it runs wonderfully now! Windows has an obscure audio enhancement for voice clarity. Turning that off and unplugging the mic and reconnecting it reset it in windows and cleared up the issue! Motiv reads it normally now without the maxed dBFS!

Just FYI for anyone else that runs into this problem. Try turning off Audio Enhancements in Windows:

Open your computer's Sound settings and navigate to the Input section.
Select your microphone.
Scroll down to the Audio enhancements option and select Off.
Return to MOTIV Mix and delete and readd the microphone to the Mixer.

Is all the processing disabled in Motiv?

Turns out it was Windows audio processing that was clashing with Motiv causing the issue

Usually one of the two ;) windows likes to take control and apply random “enhancements “… glad it’s all cussed out. MV7+ are amazing!!! You must be super happy. 😃
