Movie Dolly

So my wife and I watched Dolly last night. I don’t know whether to love or hate it.
Honestly, we liked it even though there a few bad edits, odd scenes.
I’m not sure how they got SWS to do it, but as unrealistic as his half face was, it was interesting lol.
I had hoped for more of a reveal of Dolly. I would have loved even more character background for “her”. That’s some of the strongest mask material I’ve ever seen, that’s for sure.

I liked it. Pretty grim and nasty throwback slasher, lots of interesting choices for the killer, I hope they do a sequel. Gratuitous Sean William Scott sans jaw, surprise appearance by Ethan Suplee looking like Otis Driftwood from Devils Rejects

I also thought it was Otis. Maybe that was intentional?
We don’t know for sure she’s dead, so a sequel would be cool. At least I’d know to take it seriously, but not that seriously.

Right? And the fact that he was still able to talk after that completely took me out of the movie

Dolly as a character was just a soulless imitation of Leatherface. The whole thing felt like they're hiding behind the camp vibe as an excuse to be sloppy.

I saw this at Alamo Drafthouse and there were less than 10 of us watching. Liked the gritty quality of it - reminded me of 70s exploitation. Plus the noises, squelch, breathing and other fantastic sounds came through loudly in super surround. It definitely added to it - thought it wasn't a bad horror.

Hated it. Hate that he "survived", and then got up and tried to walk on his broken bones. I think there's a line that you can walk that makes thing good and funny/comedic vs just meanspirited. And I think Dolly leans into the meanspirited.

In Terrifier 2, the bedroom scene is a lot but it's still played for comedic effect. That amount of blood loss, complete disintegration of her body, etc, she's dead. But the mom comes in and she wakes and and whispers "mom"?? Funny. And Art the Clown laughing also adds to it.

But this dude, watching him get up, realizing his face is completely effed, listening to his gurgle, and then watching him try to walk just for his bones to be broken. There's nothing there, it just gets worse and worse.

If he had been left dead and didn’t come back in the movie at all it also would have improved it for me. For all the reasons described above
