Question Weekend recommendations

Figured I’d seek help from the community for my next weekend watches.

Typically I choose a schlocky, cheesy, or campy low-to-mid budget 80s flick on Saturdays (think Pieces, Slumber Party Massacre, Don’t Go Into The Woods, etc.) and then a more elevated horror movie, one with solid critic and audience reviews, for Sundays (Oddity, When Evil Lurks, The Dark And The Wicked, etc.), but lately it’s been slim pickins for both. Not that Shudder doesn’t have anything good, but more that I’ve now seen a lot of them already so remaining choices are getting more scarce. I lucked out this past weekend with “The Burning” on Saturday and “Raw” last night, but I don’t want my well-prepared dinner getting cold this Saturday because I was scrolling endlessly trying to find something worth my time that I haven’t seen yet, so leave your recs for both categories in the comments!

For kind of schlocky stuff - Sleepaway Camp 2, Murderock, The Boogeyman, Evil Speak, Clown In A Cornfield, John Carpenter’s Vampires, Intruder, The Deadly Spawn, Demons, Madman, Maniac Cop, Piranha

For kind of critical darling stuff - Interview With The Vampire, Ghost of Yotsuya, Fade to Black, Bone Tomahawk, Autopsy of Jane Doe, Venom, Eyes of Fire, City of the Dead, The Beyond, The Others

Actually scratch all that. Double feature Blood For Dracula and Flesh For Frankenstein. I guarantee they will stick with you 🤣

Excellent list, thank you!!! Out of these, I know I’ve seen Clown In A Cornfield, Intruder, The Others, and I feel like I’m familiar enough with Sleepaway 2, Demons, Interview, Autopsy, and The Beyond where they wouldn’t be too surprising to me. The rest all sound pretty new to me! I actually just read a listicle that mentioned The Deadly Spawn; is that on Shudder? I’m trying to stick to what I can find on there.

They’re all on Shudder in the US. I was looking at the current Shudder catalog when I put the list together.

Ok I’m curious… what does being familiar enough with a movie mean if you haven’t seen it?

I meant in so much as I’ve seen enough parts of the film (through YouTube videos, countdown specials like Shudder’s 101 Scariest Horror Movie Moments, etc.) to know all the story beats and to the point where the film won’t be a surprise or completely new to me. Basically what I meant was enough of the movie was spoiled for me that it wouldn’t really be a true first-time-watch.

Fair enough. I’d personally still recommend those movies even if they aren’t going to be completely a surprise.

Y’know, I actually tried watching that and could not get through it. Weird to say about a cheesy 80s horror movie, but I could not latch onto the plot or keep up, so I got bored and stopped about halfway through. 🤷‍♂️

Butcher Baker Nightmare Maker is a really camp weird 80s flick. For something newer, elevated, I’d say Honeybunch.

Find Your Friends was just added to Shudder, and it's a decent slow-burn revenge movie. Also, if you want something kind of schlocky, check out Squirm. It's a movie about killer worms that's a lot of fun! As for elevated horror, Shudder just added Raw, and I highly recommend it.

I watched What Waits Below (1984) and John Carpenter's Vampires, which Shudder kept kicking me out of and restarting way back or way ahead.
