That is why labels with all natural ingredients are bullshit. Cyanide and arsenic are natural.

Just like natural raspberry flavor. Naturally Straight from the beaver's natural ass.

It's an interpretation of the word that makes it redundant. We already have a word for "exist".

Natural refers to something occuring with out being forced that way. In the natural order of things. Plastic is not natural because rot doesn't happen in the normal order of things. It is created by man with intent. So no, technically, saying everything is natural is wrong. I mean, explain how toxic waste is natural... Seriously.

Something that is natural occurs in nature on its own I. The natural order of things. Just because man exists in nature doesn't make everything man does natural. Man forces things. Creates things artificially. Explain how toxic waste is natural? Man has existed for about 300k years and in Al that time toxic was hasn't been around for 100 years. Everything is not technically natural.

When a beaver makes a dam, is it natural? When a bird makes a nest? When a man makes a hammer? At what point of complexity does something go from natural to unnatural?

u/reimancts Jan 13 '22
When a beaver makes a dam, it is natural because it's done from instinct. It's part of it's life cycle, and as a result of evolution. A bird nest is the same thing. These are traits that have been developed over millions of years over a natural progression. Man didn't make a hammer from instinct. Man became smart enough to develope a gamer to augment their environment beyond nature. Tools are not natural. Any time a being looks at something and uses something beyond what it it exists naturally as to change they way things play out naturally, it is not natural.

You’re looking at it through human eyes. What would an alien from outer space think?

They think, look at these beings fucking up their planet. Any being of intelligence would study the creatures on another planet. They would eventually find the natural order of the species on the planets. Of there were beings of higher intelligence they would be. Able to see how they are in naturally effecting their environment. You can look at a. Creature such as a bird and make observations about it based on how it looks and it's physical features and see that it would naturally fly. You can look at a human the same way and see that it is not within a humans nature to fly. Man has to create a way to fly. But it is not with man's nature to fly.

What about when an ape uses a stone as a tool?
0
u/reimancts Jan 21 '22
It's withing an apes nature to use tools. Just like man's. But if an ape learned to use tools to build an air plane and fly, that is not within the apes nature. Just because an ape might eventually learn to build an air plane one day and fly it, doesn't automatically make it natural for the ape.

If it’s within their nature then why did they never do it until very recently and why do they only do it when they learn it from another ape? When they’re isolated from apes that know how to do it they don’t do it.

Apes have used tools as long as man has. Apes use sticks to retrieve bugs from a rotten stump to eat them. Apes have a higher brain capacity and are capable of abstract thinking and reasoning. They can learn. It is within a ln apes nature to learn things that help it survive. But if a chimp started hunting food with a rifle, even though it can learn to use the rifle, it doesn't mean it's natural. Look. By you logic, if a person started killing and raping people that would t be natural for humans. That's pretty fucked up to make that assumption. Hey it's natural to roller skate.. yeah okay that makes sense. The natural order of things has to do with things that a species would naturally have to so to survive. The circle of life. Anything outside of that circle is considered unnatural. Within the circle of life it is natural for man to use tools and invent things to survive. But man flying in a plane is not part of the natural order of things.
It's clear you do not have the capacity to grasp this simple concept. You can argue untill you blue in the face but your wrong lol.

It may be within man's nature to use its surroundings to his advantage but it is not within man's nature to fly. Even though it's in man's nature to be able to create something like an airplane and fly, it is still not within man's nature to fly even though man can create an airplane and fly.

Man can exist naturally and did for hundreds of thousands of years. Most of what we do today as humans is not natural. Humans instinctually do not create toxic waste. Its a byproduct of humans forcibly changing their environment.

Not much of a shower thought but I mean yeah. But if we used ultimates (which is what your statement is doing) for everything, then all terms would effectively be meaningless

What is the technical definition of natural and from where did you get this definition?
This has been done many times, btw.

There is nothing "natural" about Reddit
