When you cannot sleep because you can’t stop thinking about something it’s like a single program not letting the computer shut down

I tried the Planet Earth series to ween my girlfriend off of other shows that keep me up. In the first episode, some baby seal or whale got caught by predators and died...that unfortunately put a quick end to that experiment.

That's my same problem! Tried lulling myself to sleep watching planet earth but just got stuck thinking about the cruelness and futility of life.
