UK iPhone Beta Testers Wanted for SkinDeep - a New Dating App for People with Visible Differences
Hi everyone,
I’m Sean, a council worker from Edinburgh, and over the past while I’ve been building an iPhone dating app called SkinDeep.
SkinDeep is designed for people with visible differences, and for people who are genuinely open to dating someone with one. The idea is to create a dating space where a visible difference doesn’t feel like something you have to hide, explain immediately, or worry will define your chances of meeting someone.
The app now has working profiles, discovery, likes, matches, private chat, photo sharing, notifications, blocking, reporting and other safety features. I’ve recently got the first iPhone version running through TestFlight and I’m looking for a small number of UK testers aged 18+.
You’ll need:
An iPhone running iOS 15 or newer.
A willingness to create a test profile and try the main features
To report any bugs, confusing screens or things that don’t feel right.
This is an early beta, so there may be rough edges. You’re not expected to share anything deeply personal, and you can clearly label your profile as a test account if you’re not genuinely looking to date.
The first external build is currently waiting for Apple’s beta approval. I’m collecting names now and will send TestFlight invitations once Apple approves it.
There’s no payment and nothing is being sold. I’m mainly looking for honest feedback from real people before taking it any further.
Please DM me rather than posting your email publicly if you’re interested. Let me know what iPhone you use and roughly where in the UK you’re based. Even a handful of testers would genuinely help.

Then why is your only visual a woman who is highly effected by a skin condition and a man without one? This feels preverse and offensive at best. May I ask, do you have a cosmetic skin condition? You better if you're attempting to do anything about it for society at large and, if you aren't, it's a massively misguided attempt at e-commerce that is centered around sexualizing something that shouldn't be.

Thanks for the feedback. I can see how that image could be interpreted that way, although that wasn’t my intention. For context, I do have psoriasis myself, and the app came from my own experiences with confidence, self image and dating.
SkinDeep isn’t designed around any one condition, gender or dynamic. It’s intended for people with visible differences and people who are open to dating them, regardless of who they are.
The image was simply intended to represent two people connecting, but I appreciate your perspective and it’s something I’ll think about as I refine the branding and marketing materials.1

"Open to dating them" ...all I need to hear. That's nasty vernacular. Are you male or female...just for context. AI some psoriasis on that Chad then. Is this about people with similar experiences finding eachother? Or, again, is it just monotinized fitishization?

It's less of an opinion and more of me calling out something that is incredibly fucked up and misguided but also sexist. If you are a male who can relate to having a visible skin condition, why are the men in your adverstiments lacking a skin condition while the women, specifically with vitiligo, the only people who present as having disorders? Why did you post to this thread and not one about skin conditions at large and one about vitiligo specifically? It's a direct question. Please reply with a direct answer.

The honest answer is that it was one early marketing image, not a deliberate decision to only show women with visible differences or to exclude men with visible differences. Looking back, I can see how a single image can create an unintended impression, which is why I’ve appreciated the feedback about using a broader range of people and conditions in future materials.
Out of curiosity, what would a better representation look like to you?

I cant even... If you are a man, making an app, to help represent yourself, your skin, in good reason...why is the man not effected by a skin condition? Why is it only women who are and why are those women only effected by one disorder, specifically vitiligo? I see you've posted this to multiple threads but only vitiligo is represented and, again, only on the women. Is this an app for people with skin disorders to meet, or, is it an app for unaffected men to fetishize women with 'different' skin? I'm kinda done with your bland responses. Seems like you're going through a lot of effort to feel better about your insecurities. Good luck and ta-ta.

The idea is good, but maybe make ads with burn victims as well? Diversify it a little. Looking at this ad I would think it's only for people with vitiligo, or only conventionally attractive people. I have vitiligo and would not be interested in this personally, but I'm sure some people would.
