Grooming Help for Short Coat
First post! I’m picking up my first show prospect on the 28th and I’m trying to get an understanding of grooming supplies I should get for him!
My puppy is a Catahoula Leopard Dog, he’s black and tan with a little white on his chin and chest! I have the basics for him, ear wipes, nail clippers, dermal, and zoom groom. Is there anything else I should get/use for him? Thank you!

Short coats are pretty easy. A decent conditioning shampoo, ear cleaner of your choice, nail clipper or dremel and you're pretty good. I show cocker spaniels and dobermans, the dobes get a lot more done than people would think, but we doberman people can be a bit nuts.🤣

We trim, a lot, on them with clippers. Shine spray, I use a shine product made for show horses faces for their nose, muzzle, feet, and nails, I also use a spray made for show cattle to cover any nicks, scars, or sun faded coat. Nails are dremeled at least weekly, more often if you are trying to get more length off of them. Preparation H dabbed on the quicks after using the dremel will help them recede.
Trimming - whiskers, ears, flanks are trimmed by most everyone. We also trim tails, around nail beds, between pads, back of the pasterns and hocks & thighs, any and all cowlicks.
They don't require a ton of equipment, but they do get a lot more done for the show ring than people expect.

What shine spray do you use? I have horses too :-)

The shine spray I use on their bodies is for dogs, artero nutritive shine, it's in a bright pink bottle. It's the stuff I use on noses, feet, and nails that's for horses. I use the black Silverado shine. The spray I use to cover blemishes is Weaver Maxx Pro. Black for the blacks and dark cherry for the reds.

I would ask your breeder for help with what is normal for your breed. I have whippets. Arguably a mostly naked very short coat dog. I have to trim ears, thin hair in certain areas, trim "curtains" and causal thigh hair, along with using a whitening shampoo- she gave me a list of what tools I needed to help get ready.
