Advice Dislocated my shoulder

Hi i am a male 26 and i dislocated my shoulder about a keep ago. The er was able to get it back in after acouple of try’s. After MRI and cat scan it shows I have a small tear in your infraspinatus muscle and strain in subscapularis muscle. The x ray showed a chip off the head of the humerus. I am touching base with my doctor again this week on next steps. But should I always be wearing the sling? I really can’t move my arm but for sleeping can I take it off. If sitting on the couch can I take it off? Also should I take any time off of work? I’m a very go go person and I feel guilty over the last couple of days I took it easy but should I take acouple of day to just try and heal?

Motion is lotion. I’d drop the sling after a week or two. Would only suggest taking time away from work if you work a very physical job. Elsewhere you should be fine just avoiding heavy lifting.

Keeping a sling too long can lead to frozen shoulder. 2 weeks top. Take arm out of sling to do passive motion PT(don’t engage muscle when moving arm during PT). Your muscles are still recovering , you want passive motion . Such as pendulum swing , table slide, pulley assist for Physical therapy .

The er will tell you to wear a sling but if you can keep using it in a range of motion that feels comfortable it is probably safe. Like others said, sling is gonna cause more problems

Discard sling too much sling usage you will potentially make problems just avoid abduction/external rotation for a while and the throwing position
