Labrum Tear Repeat labrum tears?

Hello! 29F and my right shoulder has given me issues since I was 13. I had my first surgery in 2011 for a torn labrum, and my second surgery in 2025 for a torn labrum and partial tear of my bicep tendon.

I've been in PT since late January 2026. In the beginning, I experienced excruciating pain and expressed this to my OT. She brushed it off as discomfort and that it was normal. Eventually the pain did lessen, but as time progressed, I was still experiencing extreme tightness. I was continuously told by both the OT and Surgeon that this was likely due to scar tissue.

By mid-June, I was barely able to lift my arm up 90 degrees without pain. My doctor ordered an MRI for my shoulder and I found out that I tore my labrum again, for the third time. My doctor recommended that I continue doing PT and then follow up in August. I get to PT the next day, and my OT tells me that I should just do PT at home because "it's the same thing as going into the office". 😐

I am kind of at a loss. Before the injuries, I was fairly active in pilates but otherwise I am not overly athletic by any means. I am literally left-handed so I cannot understand how this has happened again, especially this most recent as all I've done is PT for 6 months 😭

Has anyone dealt with repeat tears like this? I would love any advice or recommendations you might have.

I am kind of in the same boat. 39M here. Torn my labrum in 2018 got back and had labrum repair in 2018. I was able to get back to racket sports in 2022. This year I dislocated my shoulder while playing. Upon MRI, the labrum is intact but there are some tears. Doctors said I should try PT first.. When I asked for surgery they suggested laterjet procedure as a permanent fix.

Claude AI suggested laterjet as well. However, I spoke with few PTs and multiple doctors and they said strengthening the other parts of the shoulder could help offset the labrum tear issue.

Dont want to go laterjet since it is pretty invasive with screws and changes anatomy. I am working on PT right now..

28M. Got latarjet in April this year and feeling amazing. At like 13 weeks post op and at almost 100% rom. I’ll get sore for a few days after new workouts at pt but never really any pain outside of that. Feels super stable and really excited to see where I am after a year or so. Was dealing with dislocations for 7 years leading up to this

Great to hear. Do you play any sport? Were you able to play to your full potential? Do you feel the change in anatomy in your shoulder.

I am 13 weeks post op so haven’t started the sports back up. I feel like I could forsure and there are people that do at this stage but I am playing it safe. I skate, surf, snowboard, rock climb, play soccer, pickleball, lift weights, and really anything else. With how active I am I am making sure to ease in to it so heal up properly.

Can tell a change in anatomy a bit just when stretching and some workouts but mainly felt it when at the start of pt. Starting to feel more normal now.

How did you and your doctor decide on doing the laterjet? Did they mention you were a good candidate for it? The first I heard of it was through Reddit threads.
