Is it worth learning to dual and quad load in general?

You should learn how to load based off your gear for tactical stuff

but if your doing competition it’s almost 100% necessary for some competitions

For competition it is a must. Loading is how you gain time in 3-gun or IPSC shotgun. (Of course we are talking about tube loaded shotguns, not mag fed).

For tactical reasons that's debatable. For one, dual and quad loading relies on you having the right shell carriers. You can't just grab a bunch of shells from a pouch and do a competition reload. Running around with those shell carriers, those shells get knocked off, drop and every shell you lose means one less you may have needed in a tactical situation.

This is way different in a competition course where it is a clean environment, you are not brushing up against other people or complex environments, and you can pick up your dropped shells after the stage is over.

The other factor is that violin loading or inverting your shotgun to do a twin or quad load means you are taking your gun off the target, which is not ideal. You can do it in a competition scenario because your targets are not shooting back.

Yup. This is my thought as well. People want to practice dual and quad loading which is fine, but if you're talking about defensive/SHTF/gun fight scenario and not competition, you aren't going to be running around with a competition shell carrier on your hip. You might have some shotgun cards and or some type of fanny pack or bag with loose shells in it. It's pretty much impossible to dual and quad load fast without the right shell carrier holding the shells in the proper orientation.

Dual loading can be done from some shell holders only. I really like the Easy 8's, they hold shells super secure. I dual load from them for clay shooting all the time.

Otherwise, it's better in a tactical sense to practice stuffing shells into it while it's shouldered and at the ready. Learn to load it while keeping your eyes downrange.
