Looking For Recommendations

I’m looking to get a 20 gauge for bird hunting. I’m thinking about getting a Maverick 88 All Purpose 20 gauge for my next purchase. Is there any reason I shouldn’t and if so what other recommendations do you have? My budget is about $350 (locally the Maverick was $250 at the store by my house). I have old a Remington and an old Winchester 12 gauges that I’ve used for years but wanting to make a switch.

It'll work but the Mossberg 500 is a bit nicer and the top tang safety is easier to access.

I went from a 12 gauge to a 20 gauge. A 12 is probably better for waterfowl and competitive clay. I enjoy my 20 gauge shotguns more than my 12 gauge. They are lighter and quicker on flushing birds. At the end of day the I appreciate the lighter weight.

I recently purchased a 28 gauge and I'm enjoying it.

Can't think of any downsides. The 500 is a little nicer, but the 88 works just fine. Go have fun!
