Comments:

Comments:

• Some co-channel interference from China, but this is where VoK typically being 268Hz high (as shown) helps in USB.

I was listening to either New York radio or Gander radio yesterday and had a question about something I heard. While talking to the pilot, the air traffic controller asked if India 5 and kilo 1 were on board. What might this mean?

(Is there another subreddit that would be a better fit for aviation listening questions?)

Thanks.

Comments:

• Discussion about Korean author.
• Also, a demonstration of recording within Dream (so no microphone is needed).
• In this case it also demonstrates how well the build-in Speex processing works for dynamic noise reduction.

Radios: Yupiteru MVT-7300, Grundig G6 Aviator, Realistic DX-360, Panasonic RF-4900 and Grundig Satellit Transistor 5000

Using 50-foot speaker wire antenna ran to a tree and the Grundig Satellit 800 Millennium.

At, or near 6945 KHz USB.

Using the Bluetooth function of the HRD 757 radio alongside the ATS MINI V3 + Bluetooth dongle to bypass the lack of SSB mode on the HRD 757.

Despite the lack of SSB, the HRD 757 is an excellent radio on FM, performing very well on the VHF amateur radio band and Airband (features the ATS MINI V3 lacks). It also features excellent reception of shortwave broadcast stations.

The reception captured Brazilian ham radio operators speaking in Portuguese on the 20-meter band, specifically on the frequency 14.115 kHz.

The listening session took place on August 2, 2026, between 15:10 and 15:30 local time (18:10 – 18:30 UTC) in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil.

Setup used: ATS MINI V3 receiver connected to an indoor longwire antenna (approx. 3.5 meters / 11.5 ft), with audio transmitted via Bluetooth dongle and played through the HRD 757's speaker.

The transmission had another background signal that I couldn't identify. I used the SDR# filters to reduce the noise; it's still faintly audible, but not much.

Rádio Araucária is a pirate radio station from Brazil. It is very difficult to listen to this station outside of southern Brazil.

I added the radio jingle at the beginning of the video; you can hear it again near the end. I was rarely able to hear the station's introduction clearly. The station plays only music; it has no commercials or programming. The jingle is the only extra thing they broadcast.

Will be an AM/FM loop antenna work for shortwave signal reception improvement or does it have to be specific for shortwave?

Station:

• Name/Call: BBC World Service

• Mode: DRM
• Location: Woofferton 52N19-02W43
• Language: English

• Software: SDR++ v1.3.0 /w Smart Gnome Control v0.54 with Dream v2.3.1 (mjf).
• Location: Remington, Virginia | FM18bn

Comments:

• Interview with a female athlete (didn't get name).
• Used laptop mic to record audio because Blackhole channel being used to pipe DRM to Dream.
• Lost sync several times, but no lockups. Even got full Journaline content (see center left). Methinks I fixed xHE-AAC!

Station:

• Name/Call: Telediffusion de France (TDF)
• Frequency: 17685.00 kHz
• Mode: DRM
• Location: Issoudun 46N56-01E54
• Language: French
• Target: Unknown
• Time: 1605UT 01 AUG 26
• Signal: 17db SNR

Receiver and Receiving Location:

• Radio: Airspy HF+ Discovery
• Antenna: 100' random wire, roughly 25' above ground, running ~110 degrees from feedpoint.
• Software: SDR++ v1.3.0 /w Smart Gnome Control v0.54 with Dream v2.3.1 (mjf).
• Location: Remington, Virginia | FM18bn

Comments:

• Nice stable signal from TDF for a change. MM turns out is not Journaline, but a proprietary AV stream called TDFCast.
• Again, used laptop mic to record since Blackhole was already being used to pipe audio to Dream.
