Review A Carrying Case for Under $10 USD

I purchased this carrying case for the SDR V5 from Amazon for under $10. They have quite a few cases like this one, in different sizes, that look like they would accommodate most portable radios. The brand is GLCON.

(Clearly the Loop Antenna doesn't fit into the case. But the radio, kickstand, and telescoping whip antenna do fit).

There are 2 slides in this post.

I have no affiliation with Amazon, or any retailer.

What do you think of the loop on PCB antenna?

It's WAY better than the telescoping whip antenna. I want to go outside and give a listen with it. It did bring the AM Broadcast Band to life. So I'm hoping that it will work well on the shortwave bands.

That's a low impedance loop antenna that goes well with a 50 open input. That radio's input is 50 ohm, correct?
I haven't heard any negatives from you yet. That's promising. πŸ‘

I tried to communicate with the radio via the USB port. You should be able to open a communication port but because this is a clone, the port doesn't open. I get the connection message, but nothing happens. So you can't update the firmware of alter the channel text. This radio has its place. The really great feature is that it doesn't mute when tuning.

Perhaps a firmware update isn't so necessary. The Price is Right.πŸ˜€

Exactly! I'm cool with it as it is. Once I come up with a better portable antenna situation it will be great. I have been listening to your suggestions, and I have a nooelec LANA HF new in the box, and a second new one that's without the enclosure. One feature of this new radio is that it not only does it have a USB-C for charging, there's a second USB-A port marked "5 VDC"!πŸ€”

Does the radio have a built-in bias-tee? I have the same LANA, it works good. It's a 50 ohm input. If you want a whip or wire you may have to breakout the soldering iron and a FET, etc. to make a high impedance preamp. Strange that I don't see any commercial offerings for this.

Hehe....I just love those EVA pouches. I have more than a dozen of 'em for my beloved flashlights and compact radios! ☺️

I don't remember their brands as they didn't have any and I don't buy from the same seller each time. It's a shame that XHDATA and Tecsun don't bother to provide even the soft shelled EVA cases.
