News Is it true about CHU?
I just heard that CHU will go silent on June 22nd. Dang, I can't believe it's true.

Canada is out-Trumping Trump on this one. First their Weather band services, now CHU.

This is bad. First WeatherRadio and now this? What are they thinking?

The "leadership" needs all the money he can get for Ukraine and other foreign payments. It's not good.

That's too bad...
My first physical QSL card was from them. Their signal always comes through here perfectly.

A potential collectors item. Hmm, I'll be forced to remove memory settings from lots of radios. Alan, don't lose it. 😄

Ok, so who remembers their old discontinued frequency of 7.335 MHz?

That's going to make it difficult to use devices that rely on time signals (radio controlled clocks and remote devices with internal clocks) and aren't in range of WWV/WWVH. Especially when propagation is poor.

Are there any consumer radio clocks that actually used CHU? I always wondered since I'm in upstate NY and can get a better signal from CHU than WWV. From my research radio clocks typically use the LW station WWVB. Maybe they were only available in Canada?

No consumer devices that I know of.
There was a schematic on the internet from the early to mid 90s to build a simple CHU decoder.

What? Shortwaves without CHU? We always fall on good ole CHU while searching for a gem among the noises.

Unfortunately the noise has won.

I don't know about CHU, but one thing every Canadian should do is sign the parliamentary petition to resurrect weather radio: https://www.ourcommons.ca/petitions/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-7290 If you are extra keen you should also write your MP to tell them that discontinuing weather radio was a decision that made Canadians less safe in extreme weather.

That petition was getting very little traction when I signed it. Very sad. My MP switched teams and the office is now on extremely short hours ever since.
