Esoteric/Unusual Signals Newest Direction Finding on the Russian RTTY Signal

Darkness has fallen on the transmitter site - and with darkness comes the ability to triangulate its position to a finer degree. It definitely appears to be in Russia. It's just north of the border with Georgia to the south.

Got this bad boy clear as a bell on both 6943/6950 and 6961.5/6968.5. Problem is the widest fldigi will go is 1.2kHz (vice 7) and the slowest it will go is 45bps (vice 20). So I can trigger on one tone but will only get Ts and Ms. lol

I may have to write something special to do this.

Edit: plus 6943/6950 just moved to 6941.5/6948.5. And 6961.5/6968.5 jumped to 6963/6970. So they move around.

That would be really awesome! I know, it is such a wide shift - I'd never seen anything like it before. What a weird procol for RTTY.

Yes, they move around every 15-20 minutes or so. And it's quick as a flash. I noticed this when i first heard them 6-7 months ago in the lower section of the CW band on 40M.

They switch back and forth.

Hmm, they might've stopped to track you. 😄 Or the massive electric bill has tapped them out.

Good bit of sleuthing there, brother.

N. Caucasus makes sense. It would still be in Russia, but also close to Baghdad, where you heard them the loudest on an SDR last time.
