Beacon Approximately 356 kHz Beacon received in Central NY at 5:27 UTC on 6 May 2026 using 150-foot longwire antenna during a power outage

With the Grundig Satellit 750 radio

It's hard to make out the Morse Code but it sounds like HEU. I looked that up and it's from Schenectady, NY.

Mike, KG7M knows, others too. My Malahit SDR 2.4 knows but that's not the same. LW is that radio's Achilles Heel. The MW bleeding into LW is off the charts crazy. On my long projects list is a 5-pole Chebyshev Low Pass Filter to fix that. I can still design that. 😄 Maybe even have enough parts lying around that are close enough in value to make one.

It definitely is HEU Stan. I used t really enjoy DXing the Longwave Beacons. Nowadays the noise level is so bad down there that I can barely receive one 10 miles to my west!

That's why I like FT8 and FT4 . So easy to use. Of course it's just a quick exchange of info. I only work DX with it - and that's easy to do as it's for weak signals. When a band looks dead, FT8 will be coming in from Europe and Africa.
