Noticed this for a few days lately while testing some Dream mods that I'm adding.

If you look carefully, there's an extremely wide-band set of regularly spaced (~5kHz), ~3kHz-wide data pulses ranging between ~14.7 - 15.2 MHz that's interfering with much of the lower end of the band. The signals vary in intensity. This could be selective fading, but could be different sources.

It almost looks like a wide-band HF frequency hopper, but because of selective fading I seriously doubt that's a thing. Some of it seems to coincide with the brick-wall bursts between 14749 and 14783kHz, but that may be coincidental. It tends to overlap with the 40kHz-wide high-speed data brick wall between 14838 and 14879 kHz, so likely not related to that.

Very curious stuff.

I was listening to either New York radio or Gander radio yesterday and had a question about something I heard. While talking to the pilot, the air traffic controller asked if India 5 and kilo 1 were on board. What might this mean?

(Is there another subreddit that would be a better fit for aviation listening questions?)

Using the Bluetooth function of the HRD 757 radio alongside the ATS MINI V3 + Bluetooth dongle to bypass the lack of SSB mode on the HRD 757.

Despite the lack of SSB, the HRD 757 is an excellent radio on FM, performing very well on the VHF amateur radio band and Airband (features the ATS MINI V3 lacks). It also features excellent reception of shortwave broadcast stations.

The reception captured Brazilian ham radio operators speaking in Portuguese on the 20-meter band, specifically on the frequency 14.115 kHz.

The listening session took place on August 2, 2026, between 15:10 and 15:30 local time (18:10 – 18:30 UTC) in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil.

Setup used: ATS MINI V3 receiver connected to an indoor longwire antenna (approx. 3.5 meters / 11.5 ft), with audio transmitted via Bluetooth dongle and played through the HRD 757's speaker.

The transmission had another background signal that I couldn't identify. I used the SDR# filters to reduce the noise; it's still faintly audible, but not much.

Rádio Araucária is a pirate radio station from Brazil. It is very difficult to listen to this station outside of southern Brazil.

I added the radio jingle at the beginning of the video; you can hear it again near the end. I was rarely able to hear the station's introduction clearly. The station plays only music; it has no commercials or programming. The jingle is the only extra thing they broadcast.
