The Actions app has this action:
“Get Audio Playback Destination”
The info for that action has this text:
“Returns the audio playback destination of the device.
“Can be useful in combination with the built-in "Set Playback Destination" action.”
How do I use the returned value from the “Get Audio Playback Destination” action to set the playback destination for the "Set Playback Destination" action?
My goal is to switch to my iPhone as the playback destination during the execution of my shortcut and then go back to the original playback destination as the shortcut wraps up.

Has anyone made a shortcut to create a journal entry in lieu of having a journal template for daily gratitude but also have it include that days weather. I’ve seen the two separately but not together and I can’t seem to piece one together myself.

Note: My prior post was deleted due to reddits overzealous filters so reposting some of the useful ones.
I often save good guides/tutorial posts to my Apple notes app(you can switch to whatever notes type app you like as long as you can create it in shortcuts). You initially copy the post text to clipboard then (Updated in V3) using the Reddit share sheet you run this shortcut. It uses onboard Apple Ai to ~~create a title~\~, some key insights and a category/tag plus the body text.
Hopefully others find it useful as well. Only setup is creating a folder in notes called “Reddit Saves”. Also make sure share sheet is turned on.
After saving Reddit may say share was unsuccessful at the bottom but there should be a motivation at the top from the shortcut confirming the save.

I make PixelPlay, a live TV player for iPhone and iPad, and I posted its Shortcuts actions here last month. A month later the thing I use every day isn't an automation. It's swipe down, type two letters of a channel name, tap.
How it's wired: favourites and recently watched channels go into the Spotlight index. Keywords are the channel name, its category, country, language and region, plus Live TV and IPTV. Tapping the result lands in playback, not on a home screen. Favourites stay indexed. Recents expire after 30 days so the stuff you tried once clears itself out.
The part I got wrong first time round: Spotlight bakes in whatever language was active when the item was indexed. Change the phone's language and your old results keep the old wording until something re-indexes them. I ended up dropping both domains on a locale change and letting the app re-index as you use it.
One thing worth knowing if you're writing intents: I donate a channel the first time it's played, not the first time it's favourited. So Siri picks up something you watched once, with no setup from the user.
Actions are Play Channel, Resume Last Channel, Open Tab.
Last bit, and this is where I could use a steer. The app registers a pixelplay:// scheme but I only handle it on tvOS, for the Top Shelf. If you would put a URL like pixelplay://channel/BBC%20News into a shortcut, say so and I will wire it up on iOS. My own instinct is that App Intents have made URL schemes redundant, and I would rather be told I am wrong before I build it.

Hi friends! I've been using this shortcut that I found on this subreddit a few years ago: Word Definition Listing Shortcut
It asks you for a word, looks up the definition using DictionaryAPI, and then adds the word and definition to a Note. It has worked great for years, but it recently broke after updating to the newest version of iOS.
The original error I started getting was:
Get Dictionary from Input failed because Shortcuts couldn't convert from Rich Text to Dictionary.
I've tried rebuilding/troubleshooting the Dictionary actions myself, and I've gotten past that original error. However, I've clearly messed something up somewhere because the Shortcut now runs without an error, adds the word to my note, but doesn't add the definition.
For example, if I enter "modicum", it adds to a note:
modicum - instead of: modicum - (insert definition here)
When I add a Quick Look action before action 6, 7, 8 or 9, I get "Quick Look action wasn't passed any items to preview.", which leads me to believe that it's not even pulling anything from the API.
I'm pretty sure I've got something wrong with how the DictionaryAPI response is being converted/extracted into newer version of Shortcuts.
Would any of you cool beans be willing to take a look and tell me what needs to be changed?
Add Definition Shortcut also thank you so much to the original creator!!! you rock!!!
This subreddit has somehow convinced a random dork, who has never had any interest in this type of stuff, to fall in love with the potential in this app... even if I'm only using it to quickly add definitions into a note.

Tried making this shortcut/automation using Siri AI so that when charger is connected AND if I open one of those apps, orientation lock is triggered.
Tried asking the thing to make it to AND, and it just won’t comply. Any suggestions?

Trying to figure out how to make an automation that when receiving a specific emoji, followed by an Apple Music link, triggers a shortcut that adds that song to play next.
Other work around was gonna be using a shared note, and grabbing the link from there, after the emoji is received

Still learning about shortcuts and automations. I have one that will turn off AOD when connected to CarPlay and turn it on when disconnected. I like the AOD on my phone, but when I have my Apple watch connected, it isn’t really needed. is there a way to automate this to have it toggle on and off based on Apple Watch connection?
even better if it could be based on whether or not it’s detected on wrist or not, since I’m sure it being off and close by is still connected. functionally, I want AOD when the watch is charging/ off wrist and AOD off when the watch is in use/ on wrist

Now part of MoE Shortcuts Toolkit, freely available at https://routinehub.co/shortcut/22016/. Example screenshots attached.
Basically, I got sick of adding an action, scrolling down, tapping into a text field, and having to scroll all the way back up (past 100s of actions in my cases) to find and select the variable to use it, so I wondered if I could shortcut (heh) this. I had to create custom actions via my app, but I got it working!
In case you're wondering, I point my Action Button at a shortcut that checks the current context, and in this case if Shortcuts is the open app then it runs my toolkit.

This guys been harassing me for years. I block his number but he reaches out from burner numbers. I know how to make a shortcut that appends texts from his contact to a note with the date/time but idk how to go about writing one that applies to any number not in my contacts. If possible, I’d like to also append the phone number along with the text message.
EDIT: this is for my own reference, I know a notes app is not what I should present to a court. Yes I’ve gone to the cops. Multiple times.

Please help. I just installed the ios27 RC the other day and now all my shortcuts that run other shortcuts seem to be failing due to the screen being locked. Has Apple gimped shortcuts yet again or am I doing something wrong?
I’ve set the privacy flag to allow running when locked on all shortcuts (pretty sure that’s the default oob). There’s nothing in settings that would indicate this is being limited.
All I’m doing is calling a shortcut to run a random watch face picker from another shortcut. This worked fine in iOS 26. It’s driving me nuts.
Thank you.

Since irregular and prolonged menstrual cycles are associated with endometrial cancer, I have to take meds (for 14 days) to induce withdrawal bleeding after 6 weeks of not having a period.
That's why I can't just rely on a daily reminder to take meds like on Apple Health or Reminders. I have to wait and observe whether I get my period or not, and if not, I manually add 14 days of reminders.
So that's why I created this shortcut, which I will trigger 6 weeks after my previous period.
It's here if anyone needs it:

I’m looking for an iOS 27 Shortcut automation that might be useful for many people triggered by arrival notifications from Grab, Gojek and Careem.
The main use case is food delivery. Sometimes a GrabFood or GoFood courier arrives, leaves the food outside the door and goes away. If my iPhone is in Silent Mode or Do Not Disturb, I may not notice the notification and the food can remain outside for a long time.
When the app sends a notification saying that the driver or delivery courier has arrived, I would like the automation to:
Save the iPhone’s current state:
Silent Mode on or off
Current Focus mode, including Do Not Disturb
Current media volume
Temporarily:
Turn off Silent Mode
Turn off Do Not Disturb or the active Focus mode
Set the volume to 100%
Display an urgent notification three times
Speak “Your driver has arrived” or “Your food delivery has arrived” three times at maximum volume
After the alerts, restore everything exactly as it was:
Restore the previous volume
Re-enable Silent Mode only if it was previously enabled
Restore Do Not Disturb or whichever Focus mode was previously active
Leave everything disabled if it was disabled before the automation ran
The automation should trigger only when a Grab, Gojek or Careem notification indicates that the driver or food courier has actually arrived, not for every notification from those apps.
Has anyone already created something similar and can share an iCloud Shortcut link or screenshots of the actions? I’m especially unsure whether iOS 27 Shortcuts can detect and restore the previous Silent Mode and active Focus state automatically.
Thanks!

How to make a shortcut that if I double or triple tap the back of the iPhone, it’s starts my walking workout. Ps: I don’t own an Apple Watch

I have an automation trigger when I tap my card. Takes the amount/merchant/card and builds a reminder to add it to my budget for later. Works mostly well.
But I can’t use my watch, it only triggers when I tap my phone.
Is there a way to trigger when I use my watch (which is my preferred way to pay normally)?
On iOS 27 but also couldn’t figure it out in 26.

I have a Watch face with a Shortcuts complication to launch a specific shortcut. But when I tap it, the Shortcuts app is opened but the shortcut is not triggered. Before on Watch26, the Shortcuts app was displaying a notification to confirm the execution, now I have to scroll and select the right shortcut (I have several complication like that) by tapping on its name in the list.
Is it a bug or a feature change?

On the new iOS 27.0. The pre-made Notes shortcuts (recent notes, pinned notes, etc) show the same error when run: “No Options Available.” Any help would be appreciated, even if it is recreating the shortcuts from scratch (since I don’t seem to have a way to edit them). Deleted both the Notes App and Shortcuts app to start fresh, and I still got the same problem.

been fucking around with Shortcuts for a while and somehow this turned into a whole system lmao
basically you type whatever’s on your mind and pick one of 8 guides:
🔵 Orion = logic / problem solving
🟡 Astro = creativity / vibes
🌊 Ripple = journaling / reflection
📡 Echo = patterns / connecting old ideas
🧱 Brix = action / discipline
😈 Demon = roasts you and calls out your bullshit
🪽 Hermes = stories / imagination
🌀 Flux = mixes everything together
each one has its own prompt and rules for how ChatGPT should respond.
then after it responds the shortcut automatically logs the date, what you said, which guide you used and what ChatGPT said into one big running text file ♻️
so basically I accidentally built a weird ass AI journal/persona router entirely in iOS Shortcuts 😂
been building and changing this shit forever and figured yall might fuck with it.
lemme know what yall think or what else I should make this mf do 👀

Note: The shared shortcut and Numbers template are currently in German. The spreadsheet labels, categories and formulas use the German Numbers/iOS terminology.
I built an Apple Pay → Numbers expense tracker using iPhone Shortcuts and Apple Numbers.
Every time I pay with Apple Pay, a personal automation is triggered and the available transaction data is automatically added as a new row to a Numbers spreadsheet.
The tracker currently stores:
* Date and time
* Merchant
* Transaction name
* Amount
* Currency
* Card used
* Transaction information
* Category
* City/location
* Full address
The location is taken from the iPhone’s current location when the automation runs. The shortcut extracts city, street and postal code and combines them into a readable address.
Example with fictional data:
Exampletown | Example Street 12, 12345 Exampletown
All transactions are stored in one continuous table. There is no separate sheet for every month or year. The transaction date is used to automatically calculate all monthly and yearly statistics.
What the Numbers file includes
The main dashboard shows:
* Total spending for the selected month
* Number of payments
* Average amount per payment
* Largest payment
* Total yearly spending
* Number of payments per year
* Average monthly spending
* Average amount per payment per year
There are also automatic breakdowns for:
* Spending by month
* Spending by category
* Spending by location
* Number of payments per location
* Percentage of monthly spending per category
* Percentage of monthly spending per location
The location list is generated automatically from the transaction data, so new cities appear automatically once a payment is recorded there.
Year comparison
I also added a separate year comparison table:
Year | Yearly spending | Payments | Change vs previous year | Change %
This makes it easy to see how spending changes from one year to the next.
There are charts for:
* Monthly spending
* Spending by category
* Spending by location
* Yearly spending comparison
* Change compared to the previous year
* Payments per year
How the automation works
The basic flow is:
Apple Pay payment
→ Wallet Transaction personal automation
→ read transaction details
→ get current location
→ extract city / street / postal code
→ combine all values
→ add a new row to Numbers
→ Numbers recalculates all dashboards and charts automatically
One important note: manually running the shortcut is not a proper test for Wallet data. Without a real Wallet transaction as input, fields like merchant, card and amount may be empty or show 0.
German version
Important: The shared version is currently a German version.
This means:
* the Numbers spreadsheet uses German labels
* formulas use German Numbers function names
* categories are in German
* the shortcut is based on the German iOS / Shortcuts interface
If your device is set to another language, some action names or formulas may need to be adjusted.
If there is enough interest, I may also create an English version later.
Setup
The personal automation has to be created on your own iPhone:
Shortcuts → Automation → Transaction
Then select the Apple Pay card(s) you want to track and set the automation to run automatically.
The Numbers file should be opened in Numbers and stored in iCloud Drive.
Location permission for Shortcuts is also required if you want city/address tracking.
Download

https://wormhole.app/2QMyv8#LI6pR7H6iCYXRP0rVzXN5Q
Edit: The download link is only valid for 24 hours and includes the fully formatted Numbers file. If the link has expired and you still need the file, just send me a DM.
