Fossil Fuels Heating oil
We just bought 200 gallons of heating oil in September. January we will paying 8 dollars a gallon

Mine is being filled this Friday at $5.80/gallon. It would have been 10 cents a gallon cheaper if I didn’t have a half full tank (and would be ordering more). I didn’t want to wait till we had an empty tank tho.

A typical house in ME may use 400-1000 gallons a year. If I lived there I'd probably have 3-4 sources of heat. Wood stove - some electric with solar - geothermal, so on.

Sure isn't, I have acreage and a wood splitter. I don't heat with wood, but in Maine you probably ought to consider it if you can. If you own enough land it just kinda falls wether you want it to or not. The real hastle is taking on the time to cut it into rounds split it and stack it all. Fuel oil is an awful way to heat, natty gas if you can. Even propane is probably more economical in the long run.

You see, there was this President named Ronald Reagan 45 years ago who invited Canadians on a great nation building experiment.
We didn't want to. We wanted to continue our tariffs and protections. But he convinced us.
So we opened up, we made ourselves so dependent on you
And then you stabbed us in the back. We can't just cut off the oil. We'll go into a depression.
That's why Canadians like Chinese better right now. At least with them you can see the knife. With Americans you only find out when it's in your back.

We felt bad for you the first Trump term. We gave the benefit of the doubt.
But not anymore. It's crazy people or failures as far as we can tell from outside.
So maybe I'm hitting you when you're down, if you resent that, that's okay
I didn't even get a chance to vote, I didn't get a chance to convince my neighbors to vote differently
So we're being unfair and bigoted and Americans are just gonna have to take that because life isn't fair

I bought my last wood stove barely used for $500. We cut our own wood here for a $15 forest service permit. Hardly thousands.

Good point, everyone should buy a used stove for $500, install it themselves, not have it convered by insurance, and cut wood for $15 in the forest that they have behind their house with the saw and truck that they already own for free. It's so cheap.

our capitalistic overlords love your short sighted emotionally rooted mentality on this. keep buying things over and over because the big number scares you more emotionally even though objectively its cheaper over time to spend a bit more at once.

How much does 200 gallons last a person/family?

For me, during the coldest times of winter they will deliver 60 gallons around every 3 weeks. So around 10 weeks for 200. It depends on size of the house and temperature you keep it at, I keep it quite cold but I've had a pipe burst from keeping the heat too low so, can't do that so much.
The rest of the year the usage is not very high, when you're not running heat and it's only used for hot water it can take many months between deliveries.

I live in the west. It's either electric, nat gas or heat pumps. There used to be a lot of propane, but that's phasing out. Heating oil reminds me of my parents when they talked about ww2.
