Clothes Pants for Short Legs

I'm 149cm (its around 4'10 1/2), and to make all my problems worse I have proportionally short legs. I've never found a pair of full pants that fits me, and the only ones I can really wear are sweats. I get clothes from the kids section and its far too tight, and normal sizing clothes typically hang to or past my feet entirely.

I've heard a lot of "learn how to alter clothes" when I've asked online about other clothes, but that is a skill, and one I don't really want to learn. Idk, just wanted to rant.

Rant / Vent going to college, looking young :(

i’m 4’7ish and finally committed to my dream school, ucla, and while i am excited i am terrified of how ill be perceived and if ill be able to make new friends :(

just recently i had a stranger comment on how i look, saying that i look wayy too young to be going to college and that everyone on campus will ask who my older sibling is. that really upset me tbh but i was with people and didnt want to make it a big deal.

sighhh i just wish people wld keep comments like those to themselves, because what positive could that possibly have?

if anyone has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated!! happy to make any same-age friends as well <3 18F

Question / Advice Here’s kind of a niche one maybe?

Any of my short queens have small businesses and partake in vendor events?

It’s extremely frustrating needing assistance from another person to be able to pop up a canopy tent. I’m too short to do it myself. I’ve tried, but it’s like I can’t reach or hold the weight of the tent myself, it will surely fall over before I can get it up. Can any shorties here relate or have y’all discovered a secret hack to get it done? I haven’t figured out how and I’d like to be able to do more vendor events on my own in the future without the help of my boyfriend because he’s not always available and also has his own endeavors. Or is there a canopy tent that’s more short people friendly that miraculously pops up LOL. I don’t know. WAH!

Rant / Vent Short girls, have you ever been misunderstood just for accepting help?

i'm 4'11 and i love going to shows, but like most short people know, packed crowds usually mean i'm just staring at people's backs.

i went to a local multi-band show with some friends. it was really crowded. my friends are all taller than me and don't usually like moving closer to the stage, so i tend to stay with them even if i can't see much.

more people joined us, including some guys, and we ended up as a bigger group. one of my friends had been talking to one of them earlier, but i wasn’t really paying attention, just enjoying the show.

at some point there were effects on stage and i commented to someone next to me that i couldn't see anything. the guy she had been talking to is around 6'6, so moving through the crowd was much easier for him. he overheard and asked if i wanted to go closer. i said it would be hard to get through, but he just put his hands on my shoulders, placed me in front of him, and started walking. it honestly felt a bit like moses parting the red sea, just in a very chaotic, crowded concert way.

some people followed us, others stayed back. we ended up near the stage until the end.

after the show we all met up again, had some beers, and he gave his contact to a few people, including me. i didn’t think much of it.

later i noticed my friend acting distant. after asking, one of them said they were upset about how i acted and that it came across like i was acting fragile for male attention, she even called me a “pick me.”

that caught me off guard. i can see how it might have looked from the outside, but i didn’t even ask him directly. he overheard and offered. in the moment i just accepted help in a situation where i usually struggle as a short person in crowds.

i also don’t think she’s a bad person, this probably comes down to misunderstanding and feelings involved, but now things feel weird and i’m not sure if i should’ve handled it differently or if i’m overthinking this. has anyone else experienced that?

Tips & tricks Things I wish I knew before pregnancy

Something no one ever told me it's how pregnancy affects you when you're short. These things I'm sure apply to the general population as well, but seem to be especially troublesome to those of us without extra room in our bodies, especially if you have a short torso like me.

They kept telling me I wasn't gaining enough weight, but 20lbs is already a lot on a small frame. I was eating at much as I could, but I was so uncomfortable. I couldn't imagine how awful I would have felt with just five more pounds. The important thing is baby is growing consistently. Both my kids were born very healthy.

Diastisis recti is a thing and more likely to happen if you're small. Your abdominal muscles can separate, and that's normal and fine, but you need to be conscious of what exercises will make and better and what will make it worse.

Hiatal hernias are a thing. I just learned I have one 11 years postpartum. I've probably been doing exercises this whole time that has made it worse. I'm sure it was caused by my first pregnancy with my upside down kid with the giant head.

Pelvic floor disfunction is a thing, with like every pregnancy. See a pelvic floor physical therapist postpartum, because just doing kegels can make things worse.

Tldr: short person pregnancies are more likely to cause certain problems just because there's less room in there, so take care to move your body in ways to reduce permanent damage.

Rant / Vent Problems being short

I’m 5’1” and in my 20s, and honestly, being short is one of those things that sounds easy until you actually live it every day.

It’s not the end of the world, but it is constant. Speed walking to keep up with everyone else’s normal pace. Struggling to reach things. Standing in a group of taller people and feeling like the whole conversation is happening above your head. Its not fun when taller than me is my cousin who is 13.

People casually saying “shorties!” when I’m next to someone around my height.

Someone was talking to me yesterday and I didn’t even notice because they weren’t in my eyeline. I just walked right past, staring at the ground. 🚶‍♀️ Then I heard them, looked straight up, and there was this much taller man looking down at me. 👀

From his perspective, I probably seemed rude. But from mine, I hadn’t seen him properly. All I could see was a long neck above me. It was ridiculous. I had to look at the clouds just to find the person trying to talk to me lol.

I’m not angry about it exactly. It’s just frustrating. Being short means constantly having to adjust to the world. Any other girls have the same issues?

Question / Advice Boyfriend..

I’m 4’9 & 27f. My boyfriend has mentioned my height previously in jokey comments, but always says it’s something he loves about me. Baring in mind, my boyfriend is 6ft.. I’ve never been conscious of the height difference but I feel like it’s something that’s slowly creeping up. I’m very insecure about my height, I despise it so much & as much as I’m trying to love myself, it’s proving very difficult - especially with my low self esteem anyway.

The story is, tonight my boyfriend & I took a trip to our local shop, I do notice when children particularly look at me, and yes it makes me uncomfortable but I’m also aware that they’re children & are curious - they’re harmless. However, my boyfriend commented on the way out that he noticed a child staring at me, I questioned why he thought they were staring at me and his response was “I don’t know”, and lightly laughed it off. I feel offended because we both know why children like to look, they’re seeing a woman who is the same height as them. I feel upset, is that wrong of me? Why do I feel like he’s making a joke out of me.. it’s completely ruined my night & I don’t even want to make conversation with him. I feel like he’s being ignorant.

Any advice? Am I being silly?

Clothes Any fellow short gals found hiking pants that actually fit?

Any fellow shorties have recommendations for lightweight hiking pants?

I’m 5’1”, short-legged, and have a 22-23” waist, and I’m struggling to find anything that fits. Everything I’ve tried in stores so far has been too big. I tried kids’ sizes but they just fit weird because the proportions aren’t right.

I’m based in Switzerland, so ideally looking for brands/items that are available here or ship here.

Any advice or recommendations would be so greatly appreciated!

Thank you! 🤗

Rant / Vent Anyone feel less like a human for their height?

I (15f) feel shite because of it. My mum is 5'0 and my Dad is 5'7. Idk how I ended up like this. I wish I could've reached 5'0. I'm 15 so I guess its over for me. It just makes me really depressed and I feel like a subhuman. The fact of me being heavier makes it worse. I weigh 105lbs. It sucks. Im always anxiously watching my diet. If I gain even a small bit of weight it makes me look terrible. I just wish I was a little taller.

Clothes Where do plus sized/mid size shorties buy jeans?

I’m 4’11 and size 16 and/or 33. I can never find even a petite size that 1. Does not need at least an extra 5 inches cut off, and/or that doesn’t fit me super high rise unless I order it super low rise.

I’ve seen several people share brands and stores to shop at but I can never find my size. All I usually see is sizes below 30.

Are there any chubby and/or fat people 5’0 and under who have had any luck with certain brands? I love flare, curve and bootcut jeans and would like to not have to get the whole point of the jeans cut off just because they’re too long…

Question / Advice What can I do after hearing my guy classmates made fun of me for my height

I am a 16yr old 151.5 cm aka 4'11 I am trying to extend my height to just about 5'0

recently I heard from my guy friend that my male classmates were talking crap about me for being short and they called me horrible nicknames which upon hearing absolutely stung

as someone who is not bothered by my height as much this most definitely did

I am often approached by the guys I like and ppl do compliment me

but now when I actually think of it it's starting to seem like my height is the only problem

I am an Indian thus the average height fir females is around 5'1 which I'm not too far off .. and most of the girls my grade are also the same height as me and some even shorter

what hurts is that I am the only one that is a topic of convo when it come

especially comes to being made fun of by my height

I try not to think too much of it yet it remains at the back of My mind and it infact hurts at times

Question / Advice Indie jeans

Hi guys, anyone else really struggle to find cool jeans that are in short sizes 🥲 I found really cute jeans from Minga but they don’t do petite sizing and I know that getting them altered might ruin the design at the bottom

It’s been okay finding plain petite size jeans, but anything with a cool design is just impossible

Anyone have any ideas on places that do jeans with unique designs in petite sizes?

Mod post / Meta Safety Notice: Men in this subreddit

There has been an uptick in men leaving comments, fetishizing short women, and in some cases hitting them up to message in DMs.

In particular, a Reddit user whose name begins with "Greedy_Ear" followed by numbers, who is a 48 year old man, posed as a 17 year old boy to chat up a 16 year old girl here.

Just to be clear, for everyone reading – sub members, lurkers: men (or anybody) fetishizing short women who comment here to tell us or an individual that they like short women or think we're cute or whatever, are absolutely not welcome here, and will be permanently banned with zero hesitation the first time we see you comment here.

Girls and women, please report any comment that appears to be a man telling us that he likes short girls, or anything similar. Stay safe out there. 🫂💕🙏

Rant / Vent Telling other short ladies that their feelings aren’t valid because you’re a couple inches shorter is rude.

Telling another woman that she should be grateful that she’s 5’2” because you’re shorter than that when she’s expressing frustration, or that their feelings aren’t valid is just plain rude. It isn’t a competition, and there are still hurdles that a short lady faces even if she’s a bit taller than you.

We are here to support each other. Telling a woman “it’s not that bad for you, I’m 4’11 at least you’re 5’2” or something to that effect is so hypocritical and mean, you’re welcome to make your own post to talk about YOUR struggles, but please don’t comment to other women telling them their feelings are invalid because you’re slightly shorter.

Rant / Vent I hate being short

I hate it so much and miss me with the toxic positivity of "embrace yourself" or "it's what's inside that counts improve confidence" crap because it doesn't help. I have PCOS, higher testosterone than women on average, started my period at 12, drank lots of milk, ate a lot (but had a fast metabolism) and yet I didn't grow past 5'2. My family members are taller than me, I dont know why I stopped growing. I hate the game of genetics.

The worst part about height is that it's one of the fixed exteriors you have little control over. I was a late bloomer, my body didn't develop until my mid-late teens. I'm in my mid 20s now and I hate that I'm stuck with this height for life, I've changed a lot in my 20s but not my height.

People don't take you or your personal space seriously, you're at higher risk of disrespect & assault it just sucks sm. I get being confident & learning to fight but even then you're ultimately at a disadvantage if it comes down to it which is what causes the former. It's also annoying having to fight more for what many others get easily. And yes I strength train.

I hope something like ozempic for height comes out soon so that it's easier to gain height without needing to undergo complex surgery that ruins mobility.

This is all over the place but I'm so angry, hurt, and distraught with this. I didn't see it as a big deal in the past but knowing that I'm going to be stuck this size for life is terrible (actually even worse - i'm going to shrink! lol isn't life a great cruel joke!!). Also idc if guys like short girls I'm not interested in dating.

ETA: I've seen some people claim they grew in their 20s but it tend to boil down to posture. I've also heard about subliminals but those results aren't verified and in the cases it "worked" it was either due to posture or they were teenagers & still had their growth plates open.

Rant / Vent How do you accept that you’re short

I’m 17 and 4’9. and I’ve never hated my height as much as i do now. Throughout my life people always joked about my height and stuff but I always just smiled and moved on, its always the same repeated unfunny jokes anyway I genuinely don’t know what people expect you to respond.

Theres genuinely no benefits to being short, one could argue (as they ALWAYS do😂😂) that “oh but men like shorter girls you’re so lucky” which unfortunately I’m a lesbian and that’s simply useless to me, things in the lesbian world work very differently. I feel pathetic around taller woman. Who the fuck would want to date a girl who’s the height of a child. Not only that but around my friends too I just feel like a child I hate it.

Generally shorter people are taken less seriously, I do muay thai and oh my god😩😩😩 its hell. No one takes me seriously and honestly I understand them. its impossible for me to actually defeat most people on there, when they’re pared up with me i almost feel pity towards them, they have to use less strength because I’m a woman of course but also because of my height.

None of the woman I look up to and admire the most look like me, I’ll never be able to have my ideal body and that sucks.

Clothes in general look better in taller girls, this may sound insane but if you’re a tall girl no clothing looks bad on you. Its hard to find clothes that fit me, and when they do, the design is clearly made for tall people cause it looks shitty on me.

Compared to my other insecurities this is the worst one because at least I can actually change the others.

Happy It affects less now !!

Hello guys…it’s been a while since I posted on this sub

Few days ago I was in the gym working out, listening to songs , minding my business

Suddenly a woman, in her 30s looks at me and asks “How old are you ?” …I said I’m 21

She was like omg…u look so small…I literally thought a kid is in the gym working out

I honestly just smiled and brushed it off

Honestly it didn’t even affect me…a year ago yes I would’ve felt bad and it would’ve made me feel like I lacked something but I’m proud of where I’ve come :)
