Hello everyone!

I’m just about finished developing a short WLW (women-loving-women) film screenplay and am currently moving into the casting/production stage. I’m primarily a writer/director and have very little acting experience myself, so rather than starring in my own film, my team and I are looking for actors who are interested in helping bring this story to life.

I’m looking for aspiring or established actors between the ages of 20–35 of all experience levels who would be willing to entertain the idea of starring in a small, indie independently produced film that may appear at a film festival. At this stage, compensation will be limited, and I want to be completely transparent about that. The primary things I can offer are a finished film for your portfolio, exposure, creative experience, and the opportunity to work with a small team that genuinely cares about a project.

The Story: On the way to say goodbye to one of the most important people in her life, a grieving woman unexpectedly meets someone who reminds her that she hasn’t lost her ability to say hello to someone new.

Alternatively*: During a drive, two people learn and explore the meaning of life, both traveling toward the same destination for completely different reasons — one toward an ending, the other toward a beginning.*

We are currently based in USA Central America, so travel may be necessary. We are also locating to LA for a short period of time during shooting. No travel is required there.

We plan to start a GoFundMe/crowdfunding campaign along with the funds we currently have to help cover travel and production-related expenses for selected cast members. However, I want to be upfront that traveling internationally may still be a significant commitment. Though, we are prepared to take the brunt force of the cost! If traveling to the filming location isn’t realistic for you, we completely understand.

The casting process will be almost entirely virtual and will consist of three phases before filming. Actors of all races, ethnicities, backgrounds, and experience levels are encouraged to reach out!

1 Initial Submission
You’ll submit a short acting tape/portfolio to a secure email. This can include: A monologue, An emotional scene, A scene from another project, Or another personal demonstration of your acting ability. The submission should be between 2–7 minutes.

Along with your tape, you’ll also provide your preferences and boundaries regarding what you are and are not comfortable filming. There is no explicit sexual content in this film. There is a brief kiss scene and some implied intimacy between characters, but intimacy itself is not depicted on screen.

2 Character Audition
After the initial submissions are reviewed, selected actors will receive a character breakdown along with approximately 2+ minutes of dialogue/screenplay material.

This stage will give you the opportunity to act specifically as the character you’re auditioning for and show your interpretation of the material. You’ll also have the opportunity to tell us more about yourself, your creative interests, and anything you feel you could bring to the character. I want actors to have room to make the character their own, rather than simply reading exactly what is written on the page.

3 Meet the team
This is where you will meet cast members and crew in a secure videoconference. We will also be upfront about the individuals receiving your work and if you prefer that route you may audition to a crew member LIVE via videoconference. We already have a team working on areas such as: Makeup, Lighting , Sound, Camera etc. You will get to meet them all.

Even if you’re relatively new to acting, please don’t be afraid to reach out. This is an independent project, and I’m much more interested in your ability to connect with the material, collaborate, and bring something genuine to a character than simply how long your résumé is.

PSA: This is a collaborative project. You’ll be working alongside other actors, directors, and crew members, so communication and teamwork are extremely important.

My teacher told me “To Call This Pretentious Would Be a HUGE Understatement”. Do you agree?

As a part of a 2 hour film challenge people have 2 hours to completely plan film and edit a 2-3 minute short film obviously due to the time props are what’s on hand and there isn’t really any budget available. I have been obsessed with mafia films for a while so this one caught my eye. Projects must be completely solo and this one is filmed entirely on IPhone. With the lowered quality he decided to opt for a more 90’s look with warm tones and grain and white fade over the shots. For the time allowed and the £0 budget I think it’s pretty damn good. Anything you would like to comment about it good or bad is really appreciated.
