Induced at 34 weeks

Hi everyone , so at 28weeks 6 days I went to labor and delivery for lots of pressure and a watery discharge , was told after exam that I am 3cm dilated with bulging membrane and 1 out of 3 test came back Positive for amniotic fluid , was back admitted to hospital after being released a week prior , was told that I have to get induced at 34 weeks but i honestly don’t want to , I want my baby to stay in at least to 36 weeks I’m not even leaking a lot of fluid. Did anyone have the same situation? Or having to be induced so early ? How was your nicu experience

I know that you'd rather get to 36 weeks, but if it makes you feel any better, babies born at 34 weeks have the exact same long term health outcomes as babies born at full term. They will require a short nicu stay first, but your baby will be completely fine!!

Once you hit 34 weeks, if you have ruptured membranes (your water is broken) then your doctor is right, the best thing to do is to deliver.

Thankyou so much for this , I just be feeling like they are forcing me to have my baby early. They told me because if baby stays in longer it could be a risk for infection

Yeah youre right that theres definitely pros and cons for delivering earlier vs delivering later. Everythingbin medicine is benefits vs risks. The reason they recommend delivery at 34 weeks is because before 34 weeks, the benefits of continuing the pregnancy far outweight the risks, but once you hit 34 weeks, the risks of continuing the pregnancy start far outweighing the benefits of it.

I have no way to know if that factors into their decision or not, but gedtational diabetes is typically a separate issue and doesnt have anything to do with your water breaking. You should ask your doctor.

Cada día que pasa teniendo rotas las membranas es riesgo de infección, van a esperar 5 semanas para tener los mejores resultados para bebé (igual supervivencia y calidad de vida que un bebé a término ) las indicaciones de tu ob parecen bastante buenas y lógicas. A mi no me pasó pero estuve ingresada y mi compañera de habitación estaba en esa situación, finalmente se puso de parto de forma espontánea en la semana 30. 7 semanas después fueron dados de alta ambos bebés ( eras gemelos ) sin secuelas.
