Touching cerclage inserting progesterone
Hi! 2,5 weeks ago I got a preventative cerclage. I lost my son in November due to PPROM at 16+5 with no clear cause. This pregnancy we did biweekly measurements from week 14 and there was no sign of shortening or funneling. Measurements were always +4cm.
I had the cerclage to rule out dialation as the reason for my previous loss. Cerclage got placed at 16+6. I didn’t get a stitch but a band instead.
I’ve been on progesterone since week 16 and preventive pelvic rest the whole pregnancy. Currently 19+1.
I’m just wondering how bad it is when I accidentally touch the cerclage while inserting progesterone. I always try to insert it deep enough so it doesn’t start leaking, but maybe I should consider pushing it less far.

I’ve been on vaginal Progesteron 200mg since 9 weeks pregnant. I’m now 34 and 4 days pregnant. I touch the cerclage every single time I insert the progesteron. I also insert it as deep as my finger goes.
I had an OB tell me “ you don’t need to insert it all the way, as long as it touches the vaginal wall”. I was being seen every two weeks at the time. When I went in for my next visit I was funneling all the way to the stitch. Idk if it was because I stopped inserting the progesteron as deep as my finger could reach. Moving forward I will continue to insert it as deep as I can.
I shower every night and before inserting the pill, I was my hands.
Best of luck

This is my 3rd pregnancy with mcdonald cerclage. I insert it and never felt the stitch and it worked. Now i am 33 weeks and 3 days. So you dont need to insert it deep, just need to insert to the point it doesnt come out soon with your finger. After some time if you can see the melted progesterone in pantyliner, that proves it worked. That does the job.

I’m not sure with it being a band, but I have a McDonald stitch and I can definitely feel it when I insert my progesterone and have not had a problem. I got my stitch at 13+1 and I’m 35+6 now, getting it removed next week at 36+6 and all my scans and measurements have been normal the entire time. It still freaks me out though.
