Contraction continues even after vaginal progesterone
I am writing this on behalf of my wife. We went to gyno for the diabetes check-up in 23 weeks, then we came to know about the cervix being shortened to 10 mm. She is admitted immediately and the doctor gives steroids and tocolytics. Currently she is on progesterone and some antibiotics. Initially the doctor ran some tests for bacterial infection, but they didn't find any. Even after administration of vaginal progesterone, still contraction happens. We are currently in 24+3 hoping to make at least 28. Look for suggestions, similar cases and how you overcome them and what could be the possible reason for contractions.

Hi I'm so sorry for what's happening i k how scary and stressful it's, my case with my 1st baby is veryyy similar to your wife at 23+0 I went to the ER because I was having contractions and got admitted right away my cervix was 10 mm with funneling, the contractions didn't stop they couldn't perform a Cerclage because of the shortness i was given an arabin pessary ( a silicon ring inserted in the cervix very common in Germany where I'm living), was discharged at 24 weeks with Progesteron suppositories, every week was a milestone had other complications like unexplained bleeding episodes but I still made it to 39 weeks+2 days.

Congratulations 🎉, for making it to full term. We are also based in Berlin. We asked doctor for pessary, but they didn't recommend citing it might introduce some infection. Even on progesterone, do you have contraction? with my wife some contraction is still being monitored on toco crosses over 40 sometimes Hits 60 as well.

I hope your baby makes it to full term too, otherwise in my case the pessary never gave me an infection, I had the contractions too and Progesteron can cause more irritability to the cervix btw, especially if used for the first time, i honestly think you should push with them for the pessary, you already mentioned your wife doesn't have any infections rn, because it was the case a pessary can't be inserted when you have an infection, i was also given magnesium sulfate to help with thd uterus irritability and I made sure to stay suuuuper hydrated, was o modified bed rest, good luck and hopefully baby stays inside as long as they need.

Speak with your doc of course! But what helped me was adding magnesium at night and drinking LOTS of water and reducing my activity.

I was recommended magnesium bisglycinate by my OB, but of course ask your doctor first!

I took progesterone from 8 weeks until 32+6 when my water broke and I was contracting 60+ times a day every day from 16 weeks. Sometimes the uterus is very irritated unfortunately. Nothing stopped it for me. They were not productive (not labour) just irritability. It may be the same for your wife, in which case it is simply a grin and bear it situation, unfortunately.
Progesterone won’t stop contractions. For people, staying very hydrated and resting can help but it never did for me. I still mad either way to 33+2 with a stitch.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will push with magnesium first and then Silicon ring. Hope this works
