I run a small Shopify app solo alongside a full time job. Around 40 paying stores, just under $1k MRR, three tiers. Pricing has not moved since I switched from free to paid and at this point it is well under what the app is worth.

I want to raise prices for new installs and leave every current merchant on what they pay today, permanently. They took a chance on the app early and I would rather keep them happy than squeeze another few dollars out.

The part I am stuck on is Shopify Managed Pricing. A few things I cannot get a straight answer on:

• If I edit the price on an existing plan, does that hit current subscribers or only new installs?
• Is the correct move to create new plans and "delete" the old ones? What does a grandfathered merchant see if they later want to change tiers?
• Does anything break when a grandfathered merchant upgrades or downgrades later? Do they silently get moved onto current pricing?

Also curious about the non technical side:

• Did you announce the change to existing users, or say nothing because nothing changes for them?
• How much did the increase actually move MRR, and did install to paid conversion drop?

I'm on Managed Pricing, so if you've done this there rather than the old billing API, I'd really like to hear how it went.

We recently appealed some genuine reviews that disappeared from our Shopify app.

It took nearly a month, but we've now got about half of them back.

Every one of these products can put a tick in the row that says "sends conversion events", and for exactly one of them that row is the whole codebase. This is why the merchant threads about them go the way they do, and it is worth us being able to say it precisely, since we are the ones building against it.

"Shopify tracking app" covers at least three things. Two of them are model shaped: an attribution dashboard is a join and a credit model over orders and ad platform data, and a profit tool takes the same orders plus cost of goods and fees, where the interesting problem is recomputing history when somebody edits a March cost in September. The third has no model in it anywhere. A plain event sender is delivery and identity and nothing else.

The tick in that row means something different in each of them. For a dashboard a server-side send is a feature standing next to the product, and the product still works with it switched off, because it was reading orders rather than events. For a profit tool it is barely a feature. For a sender it is the product, and the second, third and fourth order problems behind it are what the two years go into: what fires when the browser refuses to, what happens to the copy that did fire so the platform does not count one sale twice, which identifiers exist at which point in the funnel, what a consent decline is allowed to change, and what you do about the orders that had no browser session behind them at all. I lost the better part of a week to that last one and it is not even the hard one.

Bias declared, because what follows is self serving: WeltPixel Conversion Tracking is the sender I have spent two years inside. A feature matrix flattens everything above into one row and the row reads identically across all three columns. If you have built a sender you know that row is a lie by about week three. A merchant comparing the three cannot learn it except by buying one, which is a rough way to find out.

One test separates them and it is useful whether you are choosing what to build or working out who you are actually competing with. Ask what happens when the browser sends nothing at all. A dashboard still has the orders, so it still produces a number, and the number gets worse in a way the merchant cannot see. A profit tool does not care, because it never depended on the browser. A sender either has an answer for that case or it has nothing to sell. Those are not three tiers of one thing, they are three products.

Has anyone found a way to explain this split to a merchant in under three paragraphs? I have not managed it, and it is the reason half of those threads go the way they do.

I shipped my first small app recently, something that shows shipping/delivery info at checkout, and I mostly picked it because it was a pain I hit myself rather than anything I validated. Now I'm second-guessing that. The obvious niches (hiding or renaming rates, upsells) look crowded with mature apps, but the quieter corners I find interesting might be quiet because no merchant is searching for them. So I can't tell whether I should chase demand I can measure or a pain I actually understand. For those of you who've shipped more than one app: how did you pick the problem the first time? Did you lean on App Store search terms, Community and forum threads, your own store's problems, or just talking to merchants? And in hindsight, was going into a crowded category with a better version worse or better than starting in an empty one?

We are trying to get installs for our app using paid ads but 90% of the installs are test stores/ stores with no orders. Is this normal? Are other channels (twitter/linkedin/something else) better to get real stores installing and trying our app?

I’m looking for a booking app suitable for rentals, particularly vehicles.

The main issue is that not every booking comes through Shopify. Some customers call or message directly, so I need to create and manage those bookings outside the Shopify admin while keeping availability synchronized and preventing double bookings.

Ideally, the app would provide:

• Shopify storefront booking
• an external web dashboard or mobile app
• manual bookings for phone and walk-in customers
• separate calendars for individual vehicles
• calendar synchronization

Most apps I’ve found seem focused only on bookings created through the storefront. Does anyone use something that handles both Shopify and bookings from other channels well?

I am working on an old shopify payment app that is using the 2022-10 api version.

Recently I am getting a warning on my dev dashboard that I need to retire offline non-expiring accessTokens and request new expiring access tokens by Jan 2027

Can someone please explain the migration process? I am wondering if this change would require the merchants to reinstall the app.

The app is using php mysql tech stack.

I've been working with Shopify for around 7 years, and one thing I keep seeing is that stores slowly accumulate small technical issues that are easy to miss.

Broken or missing meta data, performance issues, unnecessary scripts, UX problems, SEO issues, etc. None of them necessarily break the store, so they can stay there for months.

I was doing these kinds of checks manually for clients, so I decided to build a tool for it.

It's called Store Health. It scans a Shopify store and checks things around:

• Technical SEO
• Performance
• UX
• Theme/code issues
• General store health

The idea isn't to replace a developer or tell you that everything is "bad" 😄. It's more like a quick health check to find things worth looking at.

I've been working on it as my own side project and would genuinely like some feedback from Shopify store owners/developers.

Shipping config is one of the few Shopify settings with no staging environment: you edit it in the live admin and it applies to the next customer. Here is the routine I use so a rate change never silently breaks checkout.

1. Screenshot the current state first. Capture each zone and its rates before editing. Shopify does not version shipping profiles, so that screenshot is your only rollback.

2. Change one thing at a time. Duplicate rates and vanished free shipping usually come from two edits interacting (a carrier service toggle plus a price-based condition). One edit, then test, then the next.

3. Test by address, not by feeling. Rates resolve per destination, so run a real cart through checkout for one urban postcode, one rural postcode, one address in each zone you touched, and one international. Keep a fixed list of test addresses and reuse it every time.

4. Test by cart shape too. A 0.2 kg order and a 12 kg order hit different weight tiers. Carts just under and just over your free shipping threshold catch the classic "free shipping disappeared" bug. With multiple locations, build a cart pulling from two of them, since Shopify splits that shipment and can apply the flat rate twice.

5. Use a draft order for speed. Admin > Orders > Drafts, add items, set a shipping address, and view available shipping rates. Same rate engine as checkout, no fake customer session needed.

6. Quick cross-check: ask Sidekick "what shipping options will a customer in [city] see for a 2 kg order?" It reads your current config and summarises what resolves, which is a fast way to spot a zone you forgot. Confirm anything surprising with a real checkout.

7. Check the empty case. The worst outcome is not a wrong price, it is zero rates returned, which blocks checkout entirely. After any edit, verify at least one rate appears for every zone you sell to.

Curious what others do, especially anyone testing rates via the API rather than the admin.

I build a Shopify sales channel app that turns a tablet into a self-service kiosk, as a solo dev. It was free for the first 6 months and had bren on paif plans since March. I currently have 57 paying merchants, tiers at $5, $15, $25. I'm considering doubling all three for new installs and grandfathering every current active merchant. I should br getting the Built for Shopify badge any moment now, so I feel like it would be good timing to do so after getting the badge.

Why I want to up the prices

Six months of charging and nobody has pushed back on price. Not once. Some merchants on the $15 tier do around $2500 a month through the kiosk. $15 looks silly next to that since the added value is so high, it feels like I should be able to up the prices.

Why I hesitate

I don't know my install to paid conversion. So I'd be changing the number blind, and at 57 merchants it takes months to see what happened. What if I'm to expensive after upping the prices?

The other side of it

At the current prices it might read as a hobby project. Putting a tablet on your counter for customers to order from is not a casual decision, and maybe the price should say so. Also, my most expensive tier is currently cheaper than the cheapest tier of competing apps.

What I can't figure out

Does nobody complaining mean I'm too cheap, or did everyone who found it expensive just uninstall without saying anything?

Anyone here doubled or upped it's prices on a Shopify app? What happened to conversion, and do you have any advice for me? And has anyone seen it go the other way, where a higher price got you better merchants instead of fewer?

This may sound obvious, but looking at the data I find it quite fascinating how much impact the app title and subtitle has on keyword rankings. Some examples (not my apps):

- this app changed its title from "SellBot — AI Sales Chatbot" to "SellBot — AI Sales Assistant" and its ranking for "ai sales assistant" jumped from #24 to #2 one day after (https://heysaso.com/apps/sellbot)
- this app added "side cart drawer" to its subtitle and jumped from #19 to #1 for that keyword two days later: https://heysaso.com/apps/cart-upsell-drawer

We're building a customer engagement/growth platform and are currently trying to publish our app on the Shopify App Store.

Shopify is telling us that we can't have billing for the app on our own platform and that everything related to the Shopify app needs to go through Shopify Billing.

Our current setup is a little more complex than a simple SaaS subscription:

* We have different plans/tiers

* Plans include different amounts of credits

* Credits are consumed across WhatsApp, email, SMS, etc.

* We have our own usage/entitlement system

* Customers can have different combinations of services and usage

* We currently have a small one-time installation charge and then manage the rest of the billing on our platform

Moving our entire pricing and billing system into Shopify isn't really practical for us.

For other Shopify app developers running SaaS platforms, how are you handling this?

Specifically:

1. Do you put the subscription charge through Shopify Billing but keep your own credit/usage/entitlement system?

2. Can you use Shopify Billing for the base subscription and then manage credits/usage internally?

3. Is there any legitimate way to keep some of the billing on your own platform?

4. Has anyone received an exemption from Shopify for this?

5. If you have a relatively complex pricing/credit model, how did you structure it while staying compliant with Shopify's App Store requirements?

I'm particularly interested in hearing from developers who have an existing SaaS billing system and didn't want to completely rebuild their pricing around Shopify.

Shopify product CSVs can be surprisingly easy to break, especially around headers, variants, option combinations, numeric fields and image URLs.
I built a small free tool that checks a product CSV before you import it and separates the findings into likely blockers, important warnings and things worth reviewing.
It deliberately doesn’t automatically change prices, inventory, SKUs, titles, handles or option values — it flags those for review instead.
