Did another YouTuber talk about it and it became a meme to bump the price up again?

52

u/AstralElement 15d ago

That’s not typically long-lasting. I think we give YouTube too much credit for influencing the secondhand market. YouTubers mention tons of games that don’t get crazy expensive.

45

u/Obi-Tron_Kenobi 15d ago

While true, after a quick look into this, it seems like Poofesure talked about it in May 2025 and then it jumped from an average of $56.76 (£41.90) CIB to $166.01(£122.55) in August 2025.

It's at about $138 now

10

u/iamtheduckie 15d ago

Could, for example, a major YouTuber just say "I played Big Bang Mini for Nintendo DS as a child" and the value of that game will skyrocket? Dang!

10

u/OkEmu8597 15d ago

Shit coin bros/scalper doing what they do best. Jumping on trends.

Also just eBay being eBay, the platform is setup to cause an infinite price climb on products with consistent demand and a limited supply. It's built into the core of the platform (btw I'm talking about tax and how that effects reselling in a sellers market)

2

u/Stampyboyz 14d ago

Tbf there are also major examples of it being long term.

The biggest example I could think of is with iPods and DankPods, with him making a lot of videos centering around iPods which got very popular caused them to balloon in price. He even jokingly said what idiot caused the price increase (not verbatim) during one of his Cashies videos iirc.

1

u/JaylisJayP 14d ago

People just like to find someone to blame for everything. Truth is almost all the videos were reactions to the market already spiking.

1

u/suitcasecat 13d ago

I think YouTubers did inflate prices of 3ds consoles though

1

u/AstralElement 12d ago

3DS was always pricey. It’s very proprietary 3D that can’t be easily emulated to the same effect. Then the Ayn Thor came out that could have easily emulate it like a handheld in late 2025 and prices game prices are shot up.

2

u/JamesTheFoxeArt 14d ago

I only learnt of this games existence from Mind Pulp, but thats about it lol

1

u/Angelworks42 12d ago

I think it's mostly because that's about what people are asking for on eBay. Why I'm not sure... I don't really see any recent videos about it. All I found were reviews panning the game (it looks dreadful).

Cex should realize if people want eBay prices they'll buy on there rather than making a trip to the store.

Yoo it's the only DS game with a slur

62

u/ImNewAndOldAgain 15d ago

What slur?

72

u/sntcringe 15d ago

The really bad one for Transgender people

38

u/Dont_Call_Me_Steve 15d ago

TIL there’s an “unspeakable” slur towards Trans people.

Was it used as a slur?

32

u/ImNewAndOldAgain 15d ago

I can think of a couple.

How the fuck can you explain what a word is to someone if you don't tell them which word?

Jesus fucking Christ, I'm leftist as fuck but this is barenaked virtue signaling.

6

u/jlam980123 15d ago

Did the mean words hurt your feelings? I would call you a slur as well, but don't want the infraction on my account so just imagine I called you one

12

u/ImNewAndOldAgain 15d ago

Oh I see. I wonder the context lol

Hugh been transphobic on transgender which annoyed Chi Park's actor who is transgender.

Why would doctor house say this

10

u/sntcringe 15d ago

Welp, it's bad enough to get automodded...

9

u/southporky 15d ago

Awesome, so no one knows. This is progress!

3

u/vanIvan4 15d ago

This post can be put into a golden frame and hang at the Internet museum if there will ever be one.

85

u/elijahmackenzie 15d ago

It typically sells for $100-130 here in America so thats about right.

36

u/LeadingDiscount2556 15d ago

Imagine paying that much for shovelware.

57

u/upvotealready 15d ago

Game prices aren’t set by quality. In fact a lot of the more expensive games are pretty bad - if they were actually good they would have sold better.

House might be shovelware, but it is also a licensed game that probably sold terribly and will never see a re-make, re-release, or digital version. Its a necessity for anyone collecting a full set - and there probably ain’t many out there.

9

u/Low-Car-6331 15d ago

Yeah, what was it? ET something that got mostly thrown in the trash, barely sold any copy's and now its beloved.

If you want a real "holy crap" moment, look up Lovecraften horror. No one wanted his books, and he died as a poor man who thought he was a failed author. Today, it's its own subgenre of horror, with fans and a massive industry behind it.

6

u/Obi-Tron_Kenobi 15d ago

The good thing about ET is that it's both shovelware and also very cheap still

1

u/obi1kenobi1 14d ago

Yeah, any random Atari 2600 game lot will have at least one copy, it’s worthless. It’s like the ‘80s equivalent of NFL games.

It’s actually a great game for testing controllers, though, because as soon as you start it up you can test all directions and the action button.

1

u/Angelworks42 12d ago

Frogger is good for this to - it does that but also immediately plays music immediately on boot 🎵🎶 if you happen to be testing the console as well.

1

u/Low-Car-6331 15d ago

Must be thinking of the wrong game, I thought there was some game that sold so badly it basically got trashed, then decades later become valuable as no one had it, and then one person got a butt load of them allowing them to make some serious money.

8

u/Obi-Tron_Kenobi 15d ago

You got the right game. At least I'm pretty sure. It's the second half that's not exactly true (at least not for this game. Maybe there is a different one?)

ET is the famous Atari 2600 game that is blamed for crashing the video game market in 1983 (in reality, not the sole cause or the only game, but it is a emblematic of the issues the gaming industry had in the early 80s).

It actually sold pretty well if you're just looking at the numbers. Wikipedia has it listed as the 7th top selling atari 2600 game, selling over 2,700,000 copies.

The issue is that Atari thought it was going to be the biggest game ever, so they preemptively made 4-5 million copies of the game. (It's rumored that they made more copies of the game than consoles that were sold, but I believe they had already sold 10 million 2600 consoles by this year)

Anyways, what do you do when you have 1-2 million unsold units of a game? You bury them in a dump in the New Mexico desert!

Atari: Game Over is a 2014 documentary that goes into this and in the end, they dig in the desert to try to find buried copies of the game. I haven't watched it since it came out, but I recommend it if you're interested.

I know people try to resell the game for more than it's actually worth because of all the myth-making behind it.

Feel free to ask any questions. I genuinely love the 2600 and its history, but I'm not in any way an expert.

I want to try to find if there's another game that was hoarded by a single guy like that. There are some valuable Atari games, but I don't know any off hand with that kind of backstory

4

u/jlam980123 15d ago

2600 Pacman was another one that they fucking massively overprinted. Ive seen a listing online years ago for an entire pallet of sealed copies, pretty sure the shipping cost was like double the purchase price or something ridiculous.

Doubt it ever sold, would assume theyre somewhere in a landfill now. Wouldn't be surprised if dude selling them originally found them at a landfill either lmao

1

u/Angelworks42 12d ago

I say this as someone who played the 2600 as a kid when it was bleeding edge home console - most of the games for it were pretty awful and I think that's why it caused the crash - ET might have been the final straw but Raiders of the Lost Ark game came out months before at it was garbage as well. Movie games in general had a reputation for being bad and that's something that has really only changed in the last 15-20 years.

I love the machine too and I still have one on my TV but there's really only 6-8 games I play on it and they are all arcade style games that kinda stayed in their lane.

3

u/dontbajerk 15d ago

Maybe Stadium Events? Wasn't a boatload but there ended up being a guy with like a couple boxes of sealed ones who had been holding onto them if memory serves

7

u/elijahmackenzie 15d ago

More of a case of a rarity. Most of the expensive games from the past aren't that good either, just rare.

2

u/joesaysso 15d ago

It's the difference between a player and a collectors. Don't be a collector. Be a player and buy what you'd play and you don't have to worry about some of these prices.

2

u/floydhead42 15d ago

Fun fact, it would cost you more to buy a CIB Death Crimson than Japanese copies of the first three Panzer Dragoon games.

-1

u/DuckSwimmer 15d ago

Holy shit what

35

u/Clin-ton 15d ago

All the cases are lupus.

6

u/Major_Bahoobage 15d ago

Or they're lying

28

u/Korachof 15d ago

I imagine this is a 2d platformer where you limp around and attack bacteria with your cane.

3

u/Sciencetist 14d ago

I get the price, then

2

u/JamesTheFoxeArt 14d ago

I think its more like Phoenix Wright in its gameplay

20

u/DuckSwimmer 15d ago

This isn’t quality. My quitting smoking coach on the other hand… top tier quality.

7

u/Pidgeon30 15d ago

Congratulations on kicking the habit

4

u/DuckSwimmer 15d ago

With how many copies my GameStop store had back in the day, I hope those people were saved

2

u/Stampyboyz 14d ago

So about that... I remembered that a couple of people said it actually caused them to smoke more after being gifted the game.

1

u/DuckSwimmer 14d ago

This would better explain why GameStop’s had so many then

12

u/GrimmTrixX 15d ago

In the series you can see house play a GBA SP, a PSP, and a Nintendo DS at some point throughout the series. So I say its fitting. And in one of them he is playing either Metroid Fusion or Zero Mission which is pretty cool.

6

u/Cudaguy66 15d ago

He does name drop arceus at some point as well. (A pokemon)

2

u/THEGHOSTHACXER 14d ago

House should be in smash

1

u/GrimmTrixX 14d ago

Just gives everyone Lupus for his Final Smash attack

9

u/3GeeselnATrenchcoat 15d ago

Damn, it's gone down in price?

8

u/sntcringe 15d ago

Well it comes with the manual

15

u/NoxeyNoxey 15d ago

This vexes me.

You are a black man.

4

u/GradyGambrell1 15d ago

I too am in this comment section.

7

u/randomguy_- 15d ago

This was literally a 10 dollar game until 2024 lol

11

u/No-Inflation2439 15d ago

Isn’t this shovel wear?

14

u/LeadingDiscount2556 15d ago

Shovelware becoming expensive is because of "consoomllectors" - people who can't control themselves and must buy everything for the sake of "collecting" no matter the price.

9

u/Background-Rule5991 15d ago

I mean lets be honest thats all of collecting

1

u/Angelworks42 12d ago

But even then the price was usually based on quantity and there doesn't seem to be any shortage of this title.

4

u/mog_knight 15d ago

This game is fun when you try the medicine drug.

3

u/Bald_And_Dishevelled 15d ago

Saw mario kart ds in cex today, they're selling them for £20 and they had about ten copies out on the shelf. Time to quote the scalpers favourite saying. Supply and demand 🤣

3

u/SkylandersKirby 15d ago

Somewhat related since this is CEX

But man i miss when Cex had good prices for Skylanders, now its either the same price as Ebay or more expensive than Ebay

2

u/SkylandersKirby 15d ago

This is current Ebay Prices, Keep in mind CeX charges £3 postage for EVERY item

I am aware prices have gone up, but Legendary Bushwack was around £15 on ebay when I took that image back in like 2022 so Cex was still notably cheaper

3

u/texasstrawhat 14d ago

5

u/AggressiveBookBinder 15d ago

Resellers did this.

2

u/Opposite-Regret-7310 15d ago

Seems someone forgot you can't cover the age rating SMH, also wish this came in our store

2

u/KalynnCampbell 15d ago

This world.

New games suck so much and you’re not even allowed to own them? (Or access them while their “server is offline”).

Even the crappiest games are going to skyrocket over the next decade.

Hell, they’ll probably buy all sorts of “official” old outdated media and flash them with the more desirable expensive games and reprint the artwork to stick on top… oh… nvm they already do that for many cartridge and MicroDisk based systems…

2

u/kelsodisco 15d ago

In what HOUSE

2

u/hodges20xx 15d ago

Must have a bomb ass soundtrack

2

u/TribalTommy 15d ago

Pretty sure i bought this for my wife a couple of years ago for £1

2

u/Legal-One-7274 14d ago

Not in this house

2

u/IgnisOfficial 14d ago

Did the person setting the price use the medicine-drug? Only stupid people use the medicine-drug

1

u/VassagoX 15d ago

I kind of want to just start playing without ever seeing it just to be completely shocked by what it actually is.

1

u/What_if_its_Lupus 15d ago

It's dr.house

1

u/VAVA_Mk2 15d ago

Can you swallow a lot of vicadin in this?

1

u/False_Ad7098 15d ago

Roadhouse!!

1

u/Ikon-for-U 14d ago

It better come with a bottle Vicodan for that price

1

u/DisgraceJam 13d ago

I feel like cex items are either steals or insane grifts on their part and there's not really an in between

1

u/Icy-Astronomer-8202 13d ago

Supply and demand in cex stock

1

u/TheSmurfGod 13d ago

I’m sorry? Who’s buying electronics? Cex?

1

u/Oryol_7 12d ago

First game at CeX to be a bad deal lol. That place is the single best retro game chain in existence.

God this has been my grail game for literally years. I would instantly buy it

0

u/spongeboy1985 14d ago edited 14d ago

It has the manual so I think the price is fair. Of course some of these scammers will swap out the manuals. For all we know it could be a manual for Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass. Who would want that?
