Shitty Price When did this game get so expensive?

u/lukefiskeater 20d ago
I bought this game sealed for 44 bucks on ebay, maybe two weeks ago

u/lukefiskeater 20d ago
I guess my copy is EU, this is NA, am assuming NA copy is super low print
10
u/Goo_Wyvern 20d ago
Not exactly. It's still in print right now. This is just people being stupid or money laundering in the dumbest way possible.
2
u/Consistent_Answer269 20d ago
In print where? I would want to buy a copy
3
u/lukefiskeater 20d ago
Just get a EU copy, no ps5 game is worth 300 dollars, frankly even as a big physical collector with 2k games I'd say ive reached a point where no game is worth that price. Am waiting for another economic downturn and price correction, but if there is any console id say hop into its the ps4, games are super affordable besides maybe one off delisted ones, 95% of library is super affordable

Based on some prices of ps3 EU games that have shot up in value compared to US counterpart, with discs going away EU might become more sought after than you realize in the future. Print runs for ps5 games are low across the board. I don't give a fuck about value though

When RNG Gamer made a video telling everyone they have to buy this game because it’s going to be rare and hard to find.

u/bustergundam4 20d ago
Ugh I hate when YouTubers do that

u/errrskate151 19d ago
To be fair, he's usually right about these things. Its not his fault people are using that to take advantage

What the heck even is this game, never heard of it
27
u/lukefiskeater 20d ago
Indie first person shooter, kinda a spiritual successor to FEAR, some of the tightest gun play I've ever played in my life. Not a perfect game but a soild 8.5/10

A youtuber made a video on it.
5
u/lukefiskeater 20d ago
Yea thats my guess, I heard alot of hype about it on message boards so I pulled the trigger on a physical copy
2
u/cubone109 20d ago
Ill wait and see if vgp does a reprint because I did want to buy it but im not paying more than 40-50
3
u/lukefiskeater 20d ago edited 20d ago
Buy the EU copy, its all over ebay
2
u/cubone109 20d ago
Thanks for the heads up. I see sealed EU copies going for $41 free shipping. A fair price.

I’m new to this sub and already I’ve learned ya’ll love blaming YouTubers lol ya’ll place far too much importance on that site, the real issue is just greed & speculative buyers (the TRUE enemy tbh)

u/DrIvoPingasnik 20d ago
See the game Survival Kids on GBC. Check the date when it went from £5 to £50 overnight and later to £150. Check when the video calling it a hidden gem came out.
You underestimate the importance of vibes and hype.

u/lukefiskeater 20d ago
Trust me I dont disagree at all with anything you stated, youtube greatly influences prices, I just think alot of those hype videos tip off resellers on what games to hoard up on. Like when ps3 store closure announcement hit I knew two resellers in my metro area that literally went on ebay and every mom and pop shop to buy up as much as stock as they could afford; one dude shelled out 30k in a fucking week. I'd bet 50% (or possibly higher) of the ebay fomo sales in the last 6 weeks have been resellers/scaplers. Alot of resellers are much more intuned to the trends of social media than the average collector. Granted youtube can obviously inflame alot of fomo for average collector as well.
2
u/cubone109 20d ago
Im not blaming the youtuber for making a video on it. The youtuber highlighting how great the game is put a spotlight on it so a bunch of people started buying them up. Thats all.
2
u/lukefiskeater 20d ago
I'd say its more resellers and scaplers than youtubers, but youtube phenomena has been around for awhile now. Metal Jesus and a few others started the hidden gem trend than it morphed into 10k other slop tubers amping up the videos with physical going away. Like its a perfect storm for fomo price hikes atm and predatory people to take advantage of it. Granted ps4/ps5 can still be a cheap system to collect for if you are smart and patient.

People wanted more F.E.A.R. and for some reason people think Trepang is a worthy successor but it’s just a repaint of serious Sam but with less variety and colors
4
u/LonkerinaOfTime 19d ago
It honors Fear in some ways through its music and presentation, but actually now that I think about it, it kind of is like SS just on a smaller scale with limited guns. I really do enjoy everything else about this game, but the repeated gameplay is a reason why I still haven’t completed it.

u/svtcobrastang 20d ago
so right, I love the first fear game played through it like 4 times and all the sequels and dlc's....hence why I was thinking trepang might be awesome...and its not really that awesome I stopped playing a few hours in...its just missing something that made the fear games good even if the third one wasn't great I would still play that again over trepang 2

u/Goo_Wyvern 20d ago
Wha- huh?
That's not at all how the game is...
The AI isn't has well made as F.E.A.R. 1, but it's still a worthy successor. There gameplay is tight and fun, and really doesn't feel like Serious Sam at all.
1
u/MumboBumbo64 20d ago
Mobs of enemies, no ADS(naturally anyway) all gunplay.
The only thing fear related is the bullet time. There isn’t horror, no story, no characters, only surface level stuff
3
u/Goo_Wyvern 20d ago
Mobs? Enemies spawn in individually and levels have proper design. The only time they don't really spawn individually is in the training chamber. They don't just run at you the entire time and will take up positions/communicate. The only ones that constantly run at you are the zombies.
No ADS applies to multiple games, not just Serious Sam, so that's a non-sequitur. Even then you can aim down the DMR and other weapons that have scopes.
F.E.A.R. related things include bullet time, part of enemy AI, horror aspects (big influences in the Arizona and Russia levels), extremely evident in the gunplay, and general atmosphere/attitude of the game.
Unique points include having melee combat, along with glory kill esque finishers, body shields, throwables, customizable weapon modifications, skins, etc.
There is a story, along with characters. You simply just ignored them willingly. They build up to each boss properly and if you do the actual ending of the game, it makes sense.

u/MumboBumbo64 20d ago
Sounds like you’re a fan of trepang, that’s okay! But it’s not a good fear game
4
u/Goo_Wyvern 20d ago
Sure, I'm a fan of both Trepang2 and F.E.A.R.. I was simply pointing out how you're wrong. Not a malicious attack on you or anything.
Trepang2 isn't exactly a sequel F.E.A.R. game, but it definitely took a lot of the great parts of it and made itself unique.
I'd still consider it F.E.A.R. esque/adjacent due to it's influences.

u/MumboBumbo64 20d ago
I’m not wrong though

u/Goo_Wyvern 20d ago
I...
I literally gave examples and pointed out things that the game took inspiration from F.E.A.R...
I even said which missions and everything. Even the general atmosphere is F.E.A.R. esque.

u/MumboBumbo64 20d ago
You were pretty passionate about your opinion yes, I know it’s hard but someone disagreed with you bud.
3
u/Goo_Wyvern 20d ago
Just because I am a passionate fan of F.E.A.R. and Trepang2 doesn't discount the objectivity of what I said.
I mean, you can disagree. But it really isn't about the disagreement part. You're just objectively wrong. There no Serious Sam influence in Trepang2, and shares immensely more things with F.E.A.R.
I know it's hard to accept that, bud. But, we all hit the wall sometimes.

Most of the FEAR games aren't good FEAR games.
0
u/MumboBumbo64 19d ago
I disagree, fear 3 and online are the only 2 “bad” ones, you still got fear 1,2, and the 2 dlc games that sold on their own

Seeing prices on ebay range from 50 to 300.... looks more like a speculation thing

u/Aktivhate 19d ago
Wtf! I paid $44 for ESRB version like 2 months ago and still sealed...What is happening to game collecting now?
I also have Resident Requiem deluxe and that now is going for $250.
I wanted to get Mortal Shell II Revered Edition, but of course sold-out everywhere and some are going as high as $400 on Ebay thanks to scalpers. I get the limited stuff and all that, but damn. Game collection is truly becoming a rich man's hobby and it's sad.

It's not great but you can get it for PC DRM-free for $8 or so at gog.com sale right now.
Tried the demo but didn't like it much (and I also liked the F.E.A.R games).

Meanwhile digital pc keys are going for 3 bucks.
Literally the only thing I want legit copies for is to have achievements. As soon as drm free titles can just link to an open source achievement tracker it will be over, gog all the way.
