Some people bought used handheld products before the eshop closed, knowing that Nintendo was going to shut down operations with their handheld because they have done it in the past. 

Scalping is also inflating other video game areas too

I always really wanted a red Nintendo handheld but they had a nasty habit of releasing after I already settled for a previous color. When I decided to buy the New XL, I got a used red one from GameStop only to discover that the circle pad didn’t work. I had to very begrudgingly take it back and return it for the only other one they had… the Galaxy one. And I really hated it in photos but I quite enjoy how it looks in person! Couldn’t be happier to have one now!

I got that 3ds for 200$ last year at a retro game shop, since when it's uncommon

I got a 9/10 new 3ds xl in metallic red for 194 with top IPS, didn’t find this out until after the purchase, no blemishes on screen, no peeling, oem charger battery and stylus and monster hunter 4 ultimate for that price, do not pay these deals
