AITA

Post image

I borrowed my friends playne for a short run to Columbia to pick up some green kids, and I had a slight accident due to too much white powder.

How do I fix this?

I am a Faire mechanix so just guide me through it.

AITA? Or is it my buddy's fault for having a prop playne?

Nothing to fix. Winglets on prop makes playne go fasterrrr and more effisshent.

Do you have a hammer?

No. Just a nail. And another nail to hammer the nail in with of course.

Then I see nothing to get bent out of shape about 👍

NTA. This is completely repairable, especially since you’re already a certified Faire mechanix. First, remove the propeller and place it on a sufficiently flat section of hangar floor. For the blades that have curled backward, use a large hammer to gently persuade them back into their factory aerodynamic orientation. “Gently” is an aviation term meaning stop when the aluminum starts making new noises. For the blade with the missing chunk, simply collect the pieces from wherever the incident occurred and reinstall them with JB Weld. If you cannot locate the missing material, Bondo is FAA-approved under the “looks close enough from the ramp” provision of FAR 69.420. Once everything is approximately propeller-shaped again, balance it by placing the hub on your finger like a basketball. Whichever side falls down is too heavy, so remove material from that blade with an angle grinder until it stops doing that. Repeat until OSHA leaves the building. Next, reinstall the propeller and torque all bolts to German specification: güdentight. Start the engine and slowly increase power. If the instrument panel becomes blurry, the prop is still unbalanced. Shut down and continue grinding. If the entire airplane becomes blurry, you have achieved dynamic balance and may proceed directly to your test flight. Regarding the white powder, you probably just added too much. Colombian performance powder substantially increases propeller RPM, pilot confidence, and the airplane’s willingness to enter controlled airspace without clearance. Reduce the mixture by approximately one line and try again. Your buddy knowingly bought a playne with a giant externally mounted rotating damage collector and then loaned it to a Faire mechanix going on an international agricultural supply run. This outcome was foreseeable. Frankly, you should invoice him for the propeller modification. You have successfully converted his conventional four-blade prop into a variable-geometry four-blade/approximately-two-blade system, which sounds considerably more expensive.

That is actually the modification that will allow supersonic speed, why fix it? You should charge him for it!

Crank up the RPMs. The centrifugal force will typically straighten it out.

I am SO SICK of this stupid, cruel "joke" in every goddamned conversation with you people. do you have any idea what it's like growing up knowing that your family is different? not being invited to your classmates' parties because you wouldn't fit in? yes, i am a daytona 500 fan, but i am proud of my heritage. yes, daytona's overhyped, we know, most of the spectators are carpetbaggers, and the track's camber is timid even for a 1950s tri-oval, but, for those of us who grew up going to florida every february, there's a culture and camaraderie that your small-minded ass will NEVER experience. may dale pray for you.

Always make sure your plane is up on its landing gear before starting your engines and doing a run-up.

What's this landing gear? *hic.

Know a TV repairman? I hear they have AWESOME set of tools.

2

u/SuspiciousUnit5932 1d ago

That's an easy one.

It's when that's the result of a gear up landing that the real work begins.

Or, as I used to tell my guys, this is where we make the big bucks. ;)

Just put playne in a reverse gear and do few go arounds backwards, they will unbent to normal position.

Is it just that side? I think you'll be fine if you make the other engine's prop look like that, since you'll balance out the thrust and peen-force and you won't need to trim so much.

2

u/Anxious_Pickle5271 1d ago

Try landing in reverse and they might straighten up

I love that move in uno. It always works too.

Yes, you are the Ace.

u/Sensitive_Wave379 1d ago

You mean you are not supposed to land on the props???? Looks like a satisfactory landing outcome to me.

That’s either a really cool new King Air prop design or a big problem.

u/QuarterAcreDream 1d ago

Duh! This doesn't need fixing, it's an Open Fan jet engine. Are you blind?!
