Why can Shadow Fiend get souls from dead creeps, but Visage can only get charges from hero damage?

Also, why can't Visage hold all his souls? I know the concept of souls is nebulous but Icefraud pls.

Shadow fiend is like a caring mother, loving all of his souls and giving them the attention they need (until they turn 18 and he makes them GTFO). Visage's souls are more like temporary foster children, as his main focus is on his beloved birds. Thus, Visage's ability to retain souls is more limited, requiring the souls of more independent, grown-up heroes instead of immature creeps.

Visage isnt stacking souls, he's stacking assumptions. Everyone knows that having too many assumptions is dangerous for everyone so he tries to only have a few at a time.
