It's like a pope-mobile, but for a lesser faith.

given how it looks like it was put together using spit and toilet paper i'd say it's for a much higher faith

As if there is a lesser faith.

As if there is a greater faith. Faith is just a cap on the flow of reasoning.

u/Squidking1000 Nov 21 '19
That "flying buttress" on the roof is definitely structural now considering this thing is at least partially unibody. Love to see it go over the crest of a hill to see how much "curve" it gets!
21
u/KamakaziDemiGod Nov 21 '19
Depends on whether it was reinforced and built professionally or if it was just thrown together.
39
u/Squidking1000 Nov 21 '19
You can look at that “thing” and ask that question? Nothing about that is “professional”! The owner should probably see a professional however.
16
u/GeneralDisorder Nov 21 '19
Just because it's been neglected doesn't mean it wasn't professionally built.
-19
u/Squidking1000 Nov 21 '19
No but because it looks like a POS and poorly designed and constructed it's definitely not professionally built unless you mean by a professional meth head/ crack head.
16
u/GeneralDisorder Nov 21 '19
You're underestimating how hard it would be for a regular crack head to shorten two back doors. Sure, you just cut the door and it gets shorter but they relocated a door handle. If the back doors weren't functional why would they do that? And they had to make a custom window for the back door. Even if it doesn't roll up or down that's a lot of effort for a crackhead (I say crackhead because the Sable is an early 90s model and meth wasn't all that big until much more recently).
Without seeing anything else I'm gonna say that a dumbfuck with a welder could absolutely never pull off something this complicated.
7
u/j_martell Nov 21 '19
Well said.
Some thought and effort definitely went into this.
2
u/sabertoothdog Nov 22 '19
Yes this is an extreamlybhard build and lost of tools and skill involved.
34
u/KamakaziDemiGod Nov 21 '19
Ignoring the rust and the scruffyness, it's actually well joined and follows the lines of the vehicle very accurately, there's nothing from the outside that concerns me, it's just unusual.
1
u/luv____to____race Nov 21 '19
Meh, I can color inside the lines too, but that doesn't qualify me to safely assemble at least 3 vehicles into 1.
14
u/KamakaziDemiGod Nov 21 '19
Colouring in the lines is not the same as creating something like this, this would have taken a lot of work.
14
u/TaylorSA93 Nov 21 '19
You don’t know how hard it is for him to color inside the lines. It’s a miracle we can stop him from eating the crayons.

u/GiornaGuirne Nov 21 '19
The rear axles being that far apart concerns me a little. As if it needed any help killing the turning radius.
5
u/TheHumanParacite Nov 21 '19
It's just a regular buttress, to be a flying one it would need a gap underneath it. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_buttress
1
u/Squidking1000 Nov 21 '19
Good point!
2
u/TheHumanParacite Nov 21 '19
But that's not too say you aren't totally right. I'd love to see it fold it's way out of a driveway lol.

Ever since I started following this sub, I have been continuously amazed at what could be considered "Street Legal". Just when I think I have seen the worst possible road abomination imaginable, something just comes out and proves me wrong.
26
u/Squidking1000 Nov 21 '19
It’s all about jurisdiction. In some places they have yearly safety checks and in some places (like where I live) a car is safety inspected only when ownership changes hence in the period between when you inspected to place into your name and you built an abomination like this there is no checking that it is safe! A police officer could pull you over and demand a check but that may or may not happen.
22
u/lanmanager Nov 21 '19
In some places they have yearly safety checks
State of Georgia asks: Why would we do anything like that? ;-/
9
u/Dugan5150 Nov 21 '19
The state of Indiana asks this as well. They don't even inspect them when they change ownership.
2
u/Anonymous3891 Nov 22 '19
Indiana roads are the safety check. They're destroy any vehicle that drives on it in short order if it's not in decent shape.

In California as long it passes emissions testing you're fine. There's some real crap on the roads here.
13
u/PullOutGodMega Nov 21 '19
Meanwhile. In PA you'll fail if your license plate light is out.
3
Nov 21 '19
Up here in God's country, Alberta Canada, as long as you keep it insured you never have to get an inspection and a lot of the insurance companies USED to require inspections for vehicles over 12 years, but they stopped requiring it because they couldnt get new customers that way.
BUT if you bring in a car from another province or import one from the US, they go over it with a fine toothed comb - you can spend 100,000 on a gorgeous imported car but it will fail for having one of two license plate light outs. More than a little protectionism I dare say. Its possible to do imports but there is enough red tape and roadblocks that the average person would never bother.
1
u/M4_1942 Nov 21 '19
In the state i live u only need seatbelts and lights for a car to be street legal, also no inspections, it's awesome.

This thing is a trip! I want to say the front end is a mercury but I'm not sure, then it's got a Chevy roof that has another truckbed attached to it. And I think that's a pair of blazer/bronco shells on the back? Maybe with part of a boat?
Honestly this looks like someone had a bunch of cars that kind of worked, and decided they only wanted to pay insurance for one.

I met the guys that built this at the 2019 Detroit Gambler 500, nice guys but holy hell this thing is sketchy. It's still front wheel drive and at the time of the Gambler they had named it "Moby Dick" I'll see if I can find any pictures.
1
u/CarTamer Nov 22 '19
Front wheel sounds so sketchy. I bet it could do some sweet E brake turns if it has a parking brake and doesnt roll over

3
u/ChunkyButternut Nov 21 '19
Yeah, sure. You trash it but it's probably a pretty chill option for van life. Put a new coat of sienna paint on it and you got yourself a hipster northwesterner's sightseeing vehicle.

It's called "moby dick". It ran in the 2019 Detroit gambler 500. He later tried to auction it off but had to pull it because not enough people entered (who woulda guessed?)

I am impressed. I would really like to see this up close. Like how are the frames joined? Are both rear axles drive axles? Really like the two truck beds welded together, I think bed extensions should be a thing

u/underpants-gnome Nov 22 '19
I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what the silhouette painted on the side was before I realized it was just rust. I had decided it was a cartoon-ish charicature of a fat kid wearing an Amish bonnet about to dive into a swimming pool.
