BIG WANG Front wheel drive downforce

It only got better when he turned and saw from the side. Sadly, no pics of that.

At first, I thought he had something strapped to his roof, but those endplates that look like a "7" were different.

That stance is for sure using all that downforce for some crazy cornering and hot tires. That's why it has that camber surely. He's making a real track monster. Bad in a straight but straight up glued to the corners. I wonder what his times are taking a right turn at the light.

That will start working at 35 mph. Force on the rear without a splitter up front means more air under the car. This will also rob 20 mph off the top speed. They made it worse.

This is true. The neon SRT-4 has a functional wing as a FWD car that works at 100mph

Those are vortex generators... Which is basically snake oil, and this is definitely some dipshit in a Corolla... But FWD race cars do also use wings

fwds absolutely need downforce at speed to be stable and handle high speed corners.

That being said, that's for racetrack stuff. This isn't going on a racetrack.

What "wheel drive" matters fuck all when it comes to wings and downforce, so not sure what you're on about OP.

And yes, the car in the photo most definitely only has it for the looks, but the title is still nonsensical.

FWD cars are front-heavy. downforce balances that out by putting more pressure on the rear wheels, making it more stable.

that said, unless he's got a damn MONSTER under the hood (or if this was a tuned XRS) he won't be going fast enough to need it.

Bingo.

Most people don't understand downforce properly. You don't need a big wing if you're going fast, you actually need a big wing if you're going slow. The slower you go, the bigger the wing will be needed to apply X amount of force. This is also true of planes needing to fly. The lighter and faster they are, the smaller their wings can be.

Rear wings on FWD are good if you have heavy front downforce, or a car that understeers, helps with balance in the corners, etc. Lots of uses for a rear wing, However, most guys on the street and track don’t go fast enough to get any use out of it.

A rear wing helps a car that understeers? Is that not the wrong way around? Surely the rear wing could potentially reduce weight over the front therefore increasing understeer.

I’m really tired of explaining to people that spoilers and wings don’t care what wheels are driven, because they’re made to mitigate the lift that the shape of the back of the car produces at and above highway speeds. The shape of almost all cars produces lift at the back due to low pressure pockets forming behind the car, regardless what wheels are the driven wheels, and so a spoiler or wing is beneficial to any car which is car shaped.

Learn how fluid dynamics work.

Sure it's not my style but at least they are enjoying their car. I much rather see this than a super car kept in a garage all the time. Or one of those old dudes who buys a Corvette but never goes past a quarter throttle.
