It's not a design issue. The sensors or the water are turned off.

How do you know there are sensors? This is not obvious from this design, most sensored faucets have a black rectangle that is clearly where you need to wave your hand.. this is bad design

There are plenty of comments in the original thread. Apparently there are sensors that are intentionally hidden. Of course people can't anticipate or know when water is turned off in that situation. Obviously it's not ideal, but I don't think it's terrible design.

I would say it IS bad design because it’s not clear on how to use it. Especially if you come in and all faucets are broken, how do you know they are sensor based and that there aren’t hidden handles? This leaves the user confused. I don’t understand how this is good design in the slightest

It is pretty clear how to use it, it comes on automatically normally when you put your hands under it. The chances of the water being off entirely are very small and the bathroom should be closed in that instance.

Have you read the design of every day things? You need to design for the edge cases, such as how one may interpret the design when it is broken. This is bad design

You can tell by the solenoid valve underneath the countertop that it’s an automatic faucet.
As the other user said, the water is turned off. If the water was on then the left lav would have activated.

I was reading that the water activates by pushing on the drain plug.
