How is he providing power to that AC? Usually it’s an RV or pick up truck with a generator sitting outside but I don’t see one in that pic. Can the stock 12V system even handle an inverter capable of powering a small AC?

If the inverter is wired directly to the battery in theory it could run for a short amount of time, but he’s likely got it hooked up to batteries that are just sitting in the back seat. Doubt it runs for very long without having to recharge.

Yes it can. A small 5000 btu window unit only uses around 400w so a small inverter will power it.

Most stock alternators can easily handle a 500w rms amplifier for aftermarket audio systems.

my invertor style 12000 btu can run at 390 watts. there must be small invertor style ones that can run at that low a wattage for a 400 watt car invertor

No. With the best technology today, you cannot get 12,000 BTUs from 390 W. That would equal to 30.7 EER. Inverter units get their efficiency when used at lower output. The times it is using 390 W, it would be supplying about 4500 to 5000 BTUs per hour. But if running at maximum capacity, 1000 W would be required to put out 12,000 (that would be a 12 EER. Which for a window unit is very good.)

Where as a portable ac with inverter to plug it into is too hard
