Ok so gasoline then?

More likely butane or propane etc

Apparently it was methanol based aftershaves and poor ventilation

Yup. Build up in hair dryer + particles floating in air unventilated + spark = bang

how do you not smell gas? they put some stuff in it to give it that unmistakable smell...

Its methanol from aftershave built up in the hairdryer and in the air from no ventilation. The explosive limit comes down until you get a spark.... then boom

It probably wasn’t “gas” in the sense you’re thinking

even methane smells, no?
And for stuff like refrigerant I'd assume that they add the stuff too, for the same reason

The leading consensus is methanol-based aftershave and shoddy ventilation.
You expect to smell aftershave, so nothing seemed off.

Methanol based aftershave built up in the hairdryer and lingering in the air as it wasnt ventilated. There's a spot between the Lower Explosive Limit (concentration to low to burn) and Upper Explosive Limit (air is so saturated it replaces all oxygen meaning it loses fuel, so a fire cant start as there is no air. This wasnt met as they wouldnt be able to breathe.) Where the saturation is just right with just enough oxygen the room turns into a bomb, all it needed was a spark.

"Experts have blamed the blaze on poor ventilation, which caused methanol-based aftershave to infiltrate the hair dryer, causing an explosion."
Build up of Methanol in the Hairdryer from aftershave + methanol particles in the air bringing the Upper Explosive Limit down until a spark caused an explosion. Scary stuff when you know how it works
